The US government has finalized an agreement with Pfizer and BioNTech to acquire 100 million doses of their candidate SARS-CoV-2 vaccines, worth US$1.95 billion. Additionally, the US government could purchase an additional 500 million doses under the agreement. Pfizer and BioNTech currently have several candidate vaccines in the development pipeline, including various stages of clinical trials. According to a press release issued by Pfizer, the companies aim to begin Phase 2b/3 clinical trials later this month with the goal of securing US FDA authorization for at least one vaccine by October and delivering the vaccine doses by the end of 2020. The companies also hope to expand production to a total of 1.3 billion doses by the end of 2021. The agreement was signed as part of Operation Warp Speed, which has resulted in similar agreements—to support research and development, scale up manufacturing capacity, and purchase vaccine doses—with other pharmaceutical companies pursuing their own candidate vaccines.

Every other weekend there have been about fifty protesters from Ridgewood 4 Black Liberation gathering, marching, yelling and using bullhorns. Although disruptive, the demonstrations, comprised primarily of Ridgewood residents, have been mostly peaceful. Unfortunately, some protesters have physically tried to grab customers sitting in chairs or otherwise harass CBD patrons. On July 4th, one of the protesters was arrested for obstructing traffic.

Morristown NJ,  As many of us are driving more lately, some utilizing public transportation again and some fortunate residents are just returning to work, observations regarding the continued state of disrepair of many roads and bridges in New Jersey have resurfaced. Along with those observations comes some questions the Garden StateInitiative (GSI) believes the public should be asking of our leaders in Trenton. What should we have expected to get from our Gas Tax money? And why would we keep paying more until we see better results?

River Vale NJ ,Assemblywomen Holly Schepisi commented on the fact the NJMVC workers were furloughed on the same day the NJMVC has opened ,” Another example of the frustration we feel due to nonsensical decisions being made by the administration. Almost two months ago the legislature unanimously passed a bill to furlough state employees. This legislation would have enabled the State to take advantage of matching fund and other federal incentive programs, saving the State over $500 million while many State employees were being paid their full salaries to literally sit home and do nothing.

Ridgewood NJ, Goldman Chief Economist Jan Hatzius and his team found that the link between face masks and COVID-19 health and economic outcomes is significant. According to a Goldman Sachs note a national mandate to wear face masks could save the U.S. economy from additional lockdowns that would knock 5% off of GDP. ( https://seekingalpha.com/news/3587302-national-mask-mandate-save-gdp-from-5-cut-goldman-says )

CDC recommends that people wear cloth face coverings in public settings when around people outside of their household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
Cloth face coverings may help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others.
Cloth face coverings are most likely to reduce the spread of COVID-19 when they are widely used by people in public settings.
Cloth face coverings should NOT be worn by children under the age of 2 or anyone who has trouble breathing, is unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.
