Washington DC, Top FBI official Andrew McCabe has been “removed” from his post as deputy director, Fox News is told, leaving the bureau after months of conflict-of-interest complaints from Republicans including President Trump.
This on the same day that the House Intelligence Committee on Monday evening voted to make public a GOP-crafted memo alleging what some Republicans say are “shocking” surveillance abuses at the Department of Justice (DOJ).
The memo is believed to contain allegations that the FBI did not adequately explain to a clandestine court that some of the information it used in a surveillance warrant application for Trump adviser Carter Page came from opposition research funded by the Clinton campaign, now known as the “Steele dossier.”
Ridgewood NJ TRANSIT Board Member Flora Castillo has been presented the 2018 Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) Rosa Parks Diversity Leadership Award. The honor was awarded last night during a ceremony at Club 101 in New York City.
The award is presented each year to a nominee who takes initiative to facilitate professional opportunities for women and minorities, and promotes diversity, inclusion and multi-cultural awareness within their organization.
“To be honored with an award bearing Rosa Parks name is a personal and professional highlight,” said Ms. Castillo. “I’ve continually tried to follow her trailblazing footsteps in everything I do. That’s why I feel it is critical to pay it forward by advocating for diversity and inclusion and ensuring that our transportation and mobility services enable all of our customers, especially those for whom transit services are their lifeline to employment, medical care, education and all the locations that support their well-being. This is a tremendous honor.”
Ms. Castillo has served as a member of the NJ TRANSIT Board of Directors since 1999, and holds the distinction as being the first Latina to serve on the Board. She currently chairs the Board’s Customer Service Committee and is a member of the Safety and Administration Committees.
An ardent transit advocate, particularly for minority customers and customers with disabilities, Ms. Castillo has played a vital role in ensuring quality services for all
NJ TRANSIT customers, including increased seating capacity, cleaner trains and buses, new equipment and equity in the distribution of all NJ TRANSIT equipment, services and programs. Beyond being an advocate for customers, Ms. Castillo has been a strident and steadfast advocate for business opportunities for small, minority, woman-owned and disadvantaged business enterprises (S/M/W/DBEs). This included the creation of Diversity Officer role and enhancement on the focus of opportunities for minorities and women within and outside of NJ TRANSIT.
Due in large part to Ms. Castillo’s advocacy and guidance, NJ TRANSIT has enjoyed continuous and historically unprecedented improvement both in its relationship to communities of color, and dollars awarded to S/M/W/DBEs. Ms. Castillo’s advocacy for civil rights, equity, environmental justice, diversity and inclusion, have kept NJ TRANSIT focused on this critical dimension of the corporation’s current responsibilities, as well as its future.
Ramsey NJ, Dr. Matthew Murphy, superintendent of the Ramsey Public Schools, has extended an invitation to the Ridgewood community to attend their Parent Academy with Kate Fagan, author of What Made Maddy Run, on Monday, January 29 at 7 p.m. at the Ramsey High School Auditorium. Madison Holleran graduated from NHRHS prior to attending University of Pennsylvania.
What Made Maddy Run is a very powerful book that discusses some of the challenges that children are facing: social media, mental illness, and suicide. In fact, all staff members have received a copy of the book and Ms. Fagan will be addressing the entire staff in the afternoon. Later in the afternoon, she will be addressing our student-athletes and coaches to talk about the additional pressures of being a scholar-athlete. These are just some examples being taken towards the District’s Goal of Enhancing the Student Experience via a focus on Wellness.
An evening with author Kate Fagan:”Ms. Fagan brings enormous credibility and I think her story will be interesting to many,” wrote Dr. Murphy. “She played basketball for the University of Colorado and finished her career as one of the Big 12’s top scorers and then played 2 seasons in the WNBA. Following athletics, Ms. Fagan has worked for the Philadelphia Inquirer and now is a writer for ESPN. She has appeared on “Around the Horn.” She has written several books and has established herself as a sportswriter with knowledge and insight that is useful and important, especially young athletes.”

Ridgewood NJ, on January 31 it will be the last chance you will have to see a supermoon this year. To witness the supersize moon in all its glory, look to the skies just after sunset. The lower the moon sits in the sky, the larger it appears because of something called the “moon illusion.”
In the early hours of January 31, the moon will do something it hasn’t since 1866. A supermoon, blue moon and lunar eclipse will coincide for a rare and spectacular astronomical feast.
The moon doesn’t orbit the Earth in a perfect circle, which means it sometimes sits closer to the earth than usual. When the moon’s closest approach or “perigee”coincides with a full moon, it can look bigger and brighter. This is known as a “supermoon,” but the technical term is “perigee full moon.
A “Blue moon” has come to mean the second full moon in a calendar month. No it doesn’t actually shine blue.
You can also watch a live stream from the comfort of your home. NASA will broadcast live coverage of the super blue blood moon from 5.30 a.m. ET January 31. The Virtual Telescope Project will follow the event from Australia and the U.S., beaming the eclipse from 6.30 a.m. ET. The VTP will also stream the non-eclipsed super blue moon from Rome starting from 11 a.m. ET.
For the most part, it’s all about trust when it comes to the accuracy of utility bills. We trust that they are right and we pay them. I haven’t had any confidence in my Ridgewood Water bills for quite a long time now. I don’t believe that there’s any deliberate hanky-panky going on but what I do believe is that the utility is run by a bunch of political contectees who simply have no other interest in running the utility other than to maintain their positions.
The fifth congressional district was recently gradually trending blue, out from under Garrett who was still showing up well for re-election every two years until he was ambushed in 2016 via a disingenuous (but admittedly politically successful) LGBT line of attack. He had all the integrity in the world (particularly compared to the average DC swamp denizen) and yet was ruthlessly trashed because he would not yield to pressure to deviate from his strong sense of traditional personal morality. Say what you want but Garrett was not going to do like Obama did and blatantly flip-flop on his belief regarding marriage only being between one biological man and one biological woman. It’s 2018 now, though, and what with the proportional advantage the Democrats have amassed in terms of affiliated registered voters in the 5th Congressional district (gubernatorial candidate Guadagno found voters living in this district considerably less inclined toward her message than did Christie when he ran twice), one would think it would take a miracle, or at least some extremely fortuitous set of circumstances going Lonegan’s way, to enable him to flip the seat back into republican hands.
Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Police and Fire Department personnel responded to a one (1) vehicle crash into a commercial structure at 83 Godwin Avenue, Ridgewood on Sunday evening, 01/28. No injuries were reported in the crash. Damage to the structure was confined to a support beam associated with a roof overhang. The vehicle’s owner opted to drive it away on its own power.
Hawthorne NJ, Hawthorne Fire Department responded to a 911 telephone call report of a working fire inside of the 452 Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne on Sunday morning, 01/28. Radio reports from Police units arriving at the scene reported that the church altar had caught fire, but was extinguished upon their arrival.
Fire Department personnel removed the still smoking altar from the building and used thermal imaging cameras to ensure that there had been no fire extending to the structure. Ventilation was also performed by Fire Department personnel. No injuries were reported by any of the church staff, nor by any member of the congregation. Hawthorne Police provided traffic control during the incident.

Ridgewood NJ, Juilliard Chamber Orchestra Comes to West Side Presbyterian Church
The Juilliard Chamber Orchestra will perform at West Side Presbyterian Church on Sunday, February 11 at 3:00 pm as part of the West Side Concert Series. The conductorless ensemble is coached by Eric Bartlett, who is a 31-year veteran of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, a Juilliard faculty member and a New York Philharmonic cellist. Admission and parking are free; donations are welcome.
The 2017-2018 season marks the 42nd season of the West Side Concert Series. Throughout its long history, the series has presented a wide variety of solo, instrumental and ensemble concerts in the classical, African-American and jazz traditions.

Trenton NJ, This week Governor Phil Murphy was involved with a series of announcements demonstrating he will be taking sides against residents and citizens and favoring illegals and criminals.
The Governor “Sanctuary Phil” Murphy campaigned on massive tax raises and turning New Jersey into a sanctuary state . This week he moved that agenda forward .
First on January 24th NJ Attorney General Grewal announced alongside Governor Phil Murphy that the NJ Office of the Attorney General will use all the tools it has to protect the rights of Dreamers so they can enjoy the American Dream and to ensure the safety and well-being of all New Jerseyans, regardless of their immigration status.
Then on the 26th ,NJ Attorney General Grewal spoke on his focus of restricting legal gun owners rights and New Jersey’s intention to tighten restrictions on handgun-carry permits to combat gun violence for a safer state, despite the fact that criminals don’t get gun permits.
Imagine the look on the supervisors face when they learn that of all the people in Ridgewood they messed up Boyd’s water bill? HA! Of all 25000 people, you had to choose him? So much for special local service and knowing your priority customers.

Just as they remember Ridgewood taxpayers successfully suing the district about morally corrupting surveys administered to our children at school without our knowledge.
AND just as we remember pounding away at the Board of Education at their periodic meetings and on this blog for over a year in order to correct the “math ghetto” situation the district had gotten some of our elementary schools into by allowing school principals free choice of what math curriculum to use (remedial urban-targetted so-called “reform math” having gotten a partial foothold here).
AND as we remember exposing the radical “reform math” ideology of an incoming district superintendent and his equally radical educational-elite wife before he arrived in town, causing him to quit before he even started work (rather than go through here the agony he deservedly suffered in his just-prior job in Long Island…).

AND as we remember seeing the radical Ms. Botsford, the illustrious “Assistant Superintendent in charge of Curriculum”, sail off into the sunset in search of new school districts to torture, having been thoroughly thwarted here.

Lonegan was pro Ted Cruz (that’s why he was “against” Trump), Now that Trump is in he fully supports him even though Trump wasn’t his first choice in the primaries.
Lonegan is a solid guy if you believe in Republican values like tax cutting, etc and he aligns with Trumps agenda.

If you are a supporter of the Trump agenda (which it seems like you are) then a Lonegan victory would help implement it.
If you are a McCain, McConnel, Murkowski, Graham, Flake type Republican then Lonegan might not be for you in the primary.
If you are a Democrat then it does not matter who the Republicans put up since you’ll be voting “D” anyway…
