October 20th is National Sasquatch Awareness Day !

Ridgewood NJ, October 20th is National Sasquatch Awareness Day . On this day in 1967, film makers Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin have long claimed to have filmed conclusive evidence that Bigfoot, aka the Sasquatch, exists. According to their story, they encountered the controversial creature in Six Rivers National Forest in northern California. And while the images gained a great deal of attention in the press and among fans of the legend, the scientific community roundly rejected their evidence. If you look at the film, you can easily see that the figure could easily be someone in a Sasquatch suit, there is no way to get confirmation based on the images.

Westwood NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office conducted a spot check for skimmer devices  at ATM machines , and the good news, no skimmer devices found during this random spot check.
Do you know what a skimmer is? Do you check before you swipe your card? Did you know skimming devices planted by criminals on ATM’s and other card payment readers racked up roughly $3.9 billion in losses during 2017 (according to one study by a credit card company)? #Skimming your debit or credit card number, and stealing your pin number, is a real risk.

Ridgewood NJ, In September, Congress agreed to a series of measures aimed at addressing the nation’s overwhelming opioid epidemic.  Politicians, in rare show of bipartisan agreement, were responding to a public outcry over the 72,000 overdose deaths that occurred in 2017, a majority of which – about 50,000 – involved opioids.

An epidemic of addiction has ravaged communities across the United States, including locally here in the tri-state area, where more than 1,400 people have died from an overdose. 

For years, prescription pain medications have been widely used to help control chronic pain. But now, thanks to advances in medical science and technology, there are new, minimally invasive procedures that can help control pain, instead.

New Jersey Apartment Association Political Action Committee PAC Reception Hits Record Number Of Attendees

Monroe Twp NJ, On October 17,  the forces of development gathered in New Jersey, the 2018 the New Jersey Apartment Association Political Action Committee (NJAA PAC) hosted 45 legislators at its annual PAC Reception in West Orange.

The largest reception of its kind for the multifamily (apartment) industry in New Jersey, legislators traveled from across the state to join over 155 NJAA members. During the reception, industry leaders had the opportunity to discuss the positive impact the multifamily industry has both on New Jersey’s economy as well as the overall quality of life for the one million New Jersey residents that call apartment living home.

Watch Out Seniors a Midland Park Pharmacy is Filling Prescriptions in the Wrong language !

Midland Park NJ, watch out seniors , the Ridgewood blog has learned that the CVS in Midland Park on Godwin Avenue has been filling drug prescriptions all in Spanish. Great if you speak Spanish but leaving English only speakers with no way to verify if the prescription is correct putting some seniors in serious jeopardy .

The report came in on Thrursday and raised a lot of eyebrows given the epidemic of prescription drug abuse gripping Bergen County .Midland Park which according to the 2010 census was 92.82% white and only 6.65% Latino made the even more particularly concerning .

Hillsdale NJ, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo announced the arrest of BRUCE FIXELLE (DOB: 02/24/1960; married; self-employed investor) of 5 Cherry Hill Court, Hillsdale, NJ on Theft By Deception and Falsifying Records charges. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti.
In July 2018, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit received complaints against Bruce FIXELLE and capital investment companies with which he was associated, Genesis Advisory Services Corp. and Aurora Capital Management, LLC, from two investors who believed that they had been defrauded.

Dumont Man Charged with Intent To Distribute Drugs in a School Zone

Dumont NJ, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo announced the arrest of WILLIAM H. KECK (DOB: 12/6/1949; single; unemployed) of 109 Lafayette Avenue, Dumont, NJ on charges of Possession Of A Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession With The Intent To Distribute Controlled Dangerous Substances, and Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia. This arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti and the Dumont Police Department under the direction of Chief Michael J. Conner.
Several months ago, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force and the Dumont Police Department received information that William H. KECK was distributing Controlled Dangerous Substances, namely Oxycodone, in Bergen County. On Thursday, October 11, 2018, a search of KECK’s residence located at 109 Lafayette Avenue in Dumont resulted in the seizure of Controlled Dangerous Substances including numerous Oxycodone 20MG and 30MG tablets, Suboxone, Diazepam, and Zolpidem, and plastic baggies used for the packaging of Controlled Dangerous Substances for distribution purposes.

Upper Saddle River NJ, after 10 months of questionable practice of pumping mud into Pleasant Brook Toll Brothers stopped ALL pumping activities into the brook over the weekend. Houses, pumps and generators used to power these pumps were also removed from 19 Meadowbrook Rd. construction site In Upper Saddle River.

Muti Vehicle Collision Including and Oakland Police Car Sends 2 to the Hospital

Oakland NJ, Oakland Police, Oakland Fire Department, Oakland EMS, and Franklin Lakes EMS responded to aid the victims of a Wednesday afternoon, 10/17, rollover crash in front of 392 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland. A total of four (4) vehicles were involved in the collision, including a marked Oakland police SUV, which appeared to have been parked when it was hit. Two (2) victims were transported by ambulance to Chilton Medical Center, three (3) other victims refused medical aid, Multiple tow trucks were required to remove wreckage from the scene.

Tuesday afternoon Collision Shuts Down Route 17 South Bound

Saddle River NJ, Saddle River Police investigated a Tuesday afternoon, 10/16, three (3) vehicle crash that resulted in the temporary closure of two (2) travel lanes on Route 17 southbound near East Allendale Avenue, Saddle River. Two (2) occupants of a white colored 4-door sedan were transported by ambulance to The Valley Hospital with non life threatening injuries. The drivers of a box truck and tractor trailer involved in the collision were uninjured. All three (3) damaged vehicles were removed from the scene by separate tow trucks.

Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood Health Department reminds you that even though Prostate Cancer Awareness Month is officially observed in September, it should be observed every month throughout the year.

Men wonder if they should be screened for prostate cancer. Before arriving at a decision to be screened or not, it is important that men talk with their doctor about their personal risk for prostate cancer and their options. Men should learn about the possible benefits and harms of screening so that they can make the best choice for them.
Cancer screening means looking for cancer before it causes symptoms. The goal of screening for prostate cancer is to find cancers that may be at high risk for spreading if not treated, and to find them early before they spread. However, most prostate cancers grow slowly or not at all.

As I have been out campaigning, meeting with law enforcement personnel, elected officials and taxpayers I am delivering one very important message that I want to share with you.
I will approach the position of sheriff from the unique perspective of having been both a career law enforcement officer and also a board of education trustee and the mayor of a municipality in Bergen County.

I know first-hand that money is tight for municipal governments and the more that the Sheriff’s Department can be an asset to all to all 70 towns in the county the better the public will be served.
As sheriff I will make sure the sheriff’s department will serve all municipalities and all residents. If you have ideas on how the sheriff’s department can help your community, let me know.

The front of the cards will have the officers photograph and the back of the card will contain a short biography of the officer, as well as a personal message to the children from that officer.
