Fair Lawn NJ, Several homes in the Radburn section of Fair Lawn lost commercial electric power early Saturday evening, 10/13, after a large tree fell on Ruskin Road, Fair Lawn. No injuries were reported, but at least two (2) vehicles and single family homes were damaged by falling branches. Fair Lawn Police responded to the incident.

Paramus NJ, A traffic light stanchion was knocked to the ground early Friday afternoon, 10/12, at the busy intersection of Paramus Road and West Midland Avenue, Paramus, as a result of a collision between two (2) passenger vehicles. Injuries to the occupants of both vehicles were said to have been non life threatening in nature. Ridgewood Police assisted Paramus Police with traffic control during the incident. Paramus Fire Company #3 and Paramus EMS also responded to the scene.

Teaneck NJ, A Bergen County, New Jersey, man who served as a trustee of a pension fund was charged with embezzling more than $180,000 from an employee benefit fund, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced today.
Howard Preschel, 62, of Teaneck, New Jersey, is charged by complaint with one count of embezzlement from an employee benefit plan and one count of failure to file an annual report. He made his initial appearance today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael A. Hammer in Newark federal court and was released on $100,000 unsecured bond.

A separate ballot solely for Sheriff will be sent to you that MUST ALSO BE RETURNED. Many people held off returning their originally received Ballot thinking that an entirely new one with all candidates and the Sheriff would be issued. This is incorrect. Tenafly NJ, another reminder to take your keys, remove your valuables and lock your vehicle . Tenafly Police Department reported that on Tuesday night, Tenafly Police Officers stopped a vehicle on Coppell Drive that was observed driving suspiciously in the area. As officers approached, the car quickly parked, turned off all their lights, and the two occupants reclined their seats in an attempt not to be seen by passing cars. The driver had an active warrant, and both were ultimately arrested after they were found to have a ski mask and rubber gloves in their possession. Based upon our investigation, we believe these two career criminals were in our town looking to steal a car. While this arrest highlights the proactive efforts of our officers to find and arrest burglars and car thieves that target our community, it should also serve as a reminder for all residents to remove key fobs and lock your cars even when parked in your own driveway. Criminals will continue to target our community until they realize there is nothing to gain by coming here. Let’s all do our part to keep our neighborhoods safe by locking our cars and reporting any suspicious activity to the police department as soon as you see it. Glen Rock NJ, Glen Rock Fire Department and Hawthorne Fire Department personnel rushed to Glen Rock Police Department headquarters, 1 Harding Plaza, Glen Rock on Thursday afternoon, 10/11, in response to a possible chemical spill within the building. Firefighters dressed in protective gear entered the building and removed at least two (2) containers of an unknown substance(s) found in a mechanical room. Glen Rock Police Lieutenant Frank Riggio stated that there were no injuries reported in the incident. He also said that it appeared as if one or more of the containers found by firefighters may have been leaking, causing the odor which triggered a phone call for Fire Department assistance.

Ridgewood NJ, according to Garden State Cyber Threat Highlight the FBI and DHS have Issued a PSA on Exploitation of Remote Desktop Protocol.
Over the last several years, the NJCCIC has received incident reports from New Jersey businesses and organizations that were victims of cyber-attacks perpetrated via network access granted through Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS), issued a Public Service Announcement (PSA) on Thursday, September 27, detailing threat actors’ increased exploitation of RDP to conduct malicious cyber activities. RDP is a proprietary protocol developed by Microsoft to enable access to a computer or server over a network connection. However, if not properly secured, threat actors can exploit RDP to steal account credentials, compromise identities, and hold sensitive information for ransom. To protect against RDP-based attacks, the FBI and DHS recommend implementing strong passwords and account lockout policies, enabling multi-factor authentication where possible, keeping systems and software updated, and limiting network exposure for all control system devices. For additional information on how to reduce the risks associated with RDP, the NJCCIC recommends reviewing the FBI and DHS Public Service Announcement and the NJCCIC threat analysis Remote Access: Open Ports Create Targets of Opportunity, Undue Risk.

Glen Rock NJ, October 5 , the Glen Rock Volunteer Fire Department reported that at 0222 hours this morning, GRFD was dispatched for a reported working fire on Sycamore Terrace. On arrival, Chief Jennings and Asst Chief Aguilar made entry into the basement and observed a heavy smoke condition. Engine 833 (Lt Pimlott) established a water supply and stretched a hand line. Ladder 832 (Capt Burbano) assisted with ventilation and overhaul as well as the rescue of two cats from the structure. Special thanks to Ridgewood, Hawthorne, Fair Lawn, Wyckoff and Paramus for invaluable mutual aid assistance.

Over the weekend residents from Ramsay, Mahwah and Upper Saddle River met for the second weekend in a row on the property that was featured in April 23, 2018 CBS New York Evening News coverage. We all remember Channel 2 Lisa Rozner’s report from 5 months ago about those infamous hoses pumping mud into Upper Saddle River stream directly from 100 acre site that had arsenic in the past.* Since that day very little has been done to stop the mud pumping that is occurring now 24/7 according to eyewitnesses. Last weekend the site was visited by Richard Wolf, Chairman of Mahwah Environmental Commission. This weekend Councilwoman Janet Ariemma took initiative and also met with residents and visually inspected continuous mud discharge into the Pleasant Brook.

Wyckoff NJ, A former senior vice president of a national demolition company today admitted accepting $341,052 from the chief executive officer and from the president of a scrap metal company to steer business to them, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.
Frank Aiello, 53, of Wyckoff, New Jersey, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton in Newark federal court to an information charging him with conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

In addition to the regular budget, shall the Ho-Ho-Kus Board of Education raise an additional $450,000 in taxes for the 20182019 school year? These taxes will be used to restore cocurricular clubs and athletics that the Board of Education eliminated from the budget, hire an additional teacher, hire a security aide, and pay for technology equipment costs and the Board of Education’s STEAM program. Approval of these taxes will result in a permanent increase to the tax levy.
