ALLENDALE, NJ – The Borough of Allendale and the wider Bergen County conservation community are mourning the loss of a true environmental pioneer. Lillian “Sis” Thomas (née Myer), who partnered with her late husband, Stiles Thomas, to create and preserve the cherished Celery Farm Natural Area, passed away on November 28, 2025, at the age of 101.

Allendale NJ, Allendale’s downtown just got brighter. On Aug. 4, 2025, crews installed 15 kiln-fired ceramic panels on the replastered wall at 83–89 W. Allendale Ave, bringing the borough’s Centennial Mural replacement well on its way to completion. The public art project—led by sculptor Simon Rigg with help from local volunteers and students—will be finished in time for Allendale Day on Sept. 20.

SANCHEZ of Berryville, Virginia on charges of aggravated criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck; the Allendale Police Department under the direction of Chief Michael Dillon; and with the coordination and assistance of the Clark County (VA) Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff Travis Sumption.

Allendale NJ, Allendale Fire Department’s Squad 935 responded to a brush fire reported in a backyard in the borough. By the time they arrived, local neighbors had already jumped in to help contain the flames behind a home on Byron Court. Working together, 935’s crew quickly set up a water supply, ran an attack line to the back of the structure, and extinguished the fire in just a few minutes.

Allendale NJ, the borough’s Land Use Board denied an application to install a second cell pole 172 feet from the first one, off West Crescent Avenue after two hearings this week. “I’m concerned with the number of variances,” Chairman Kevin Quinn told the Bergen Record . “If it was the right plan it wouldn’t need so many.” That’s nine variances in total requested to install the pole .
