WOODBRIDGE NJ, The New Jersey Turnpike Authority is holding two public hearings about a proposed toll increase today, despite the COVID-19 public health emergency. The Sierra Club has asked them to postpone hearings and extend the public comment period because of Governor Murphy’s Executive Order 103. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Sierra Club staff members are barred from attending public meetings or asking our members to attend public meetings. This is true for many environmental organizations and NGOs as well. We are being more responsible than the NJ Turnpike Authority to protect public health and safety.

Ridgewood NJ, according to the latest Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security email a new poll found that nearly 1 in 5 of US workers have either lost their jobs or work reduced hours as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic in the United States. The poll—conducted by NPR, PBS News Hour, and Marist Poll—asked respondents a broad scope of questions, including perceptions of the President and state governments and their handling of the coronavirus response and the impact of the pandemic. In total, 18% of respondents have been fired or had their hours reduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Notably, this impact was greater in respondents earning less than $50,000 per year (25%) and those living in small cities or suburban areas (23%). The survey was conducted March 13-14, so it does not account for the spate of recent increases in social distancing across the country, including school closures, limiting restaurants to takeout or delivery, or the shelter in place order in the San Francisco Bay area.

Members of the Ridgewood Police Department, as well as our paid and volunteer emergency services (Fire, EMS and OEM), continue to be here for the community 24/7 in responding to public safety emergencies and criminal acts in progress. However, due to the national, state and county declarations of a state of emergency certain secondary, non-emergent operations will be suspended until further notice.
If you are quarantined (mandatory or self-imposed) in your home due to possible or confirmed COVID-19 exposure, PLEASE notify 911 when you call and advise the dispatcher. We also ask that you place a sign/note on your front door to alert our personnel to take infection-prevention precautions before entering your home or business. Officers will be asking questions before they enter your home. Please respect this procedure and recognize that it also protects you and your family. Please keep Social Distance (six (6) feet) from our Officers when you interact with them.

Washington DC, President Trump announced Wednesday afternoon that he will invoke the Defense Production Act, which would allow the administration to coordinate with American industry to manufacture medical supplies that are in short supply in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Hospitals, health workers and state and local officials have said they are quickly running out of personal protective equipment (PPE), like masks, gowns and gloves, that are crucial to keeping doctors and nurses on the front-lines of the pandemic safe.
“There’s never been an instance like this where no matter what you have it’s not enough,” Trump said at a White House briefing with reporters. The President is moving to enhance the ability to coordinate production of medical equipment needed for treatment of the coronavirus .

Childcare/Daycare centers should make the call to close themselves. Centers should contact the Department of Children and Families (DCF), who licenses childcare/daycare centers in NJ, for guidance and work with their local health department to assess level of risk in the community. Health Departments do not license childcare/daycare centers.

Paramus NJ, All indoor malls, amusement parks and amusement centers in New Jersey must close by 8 p.m. Tuesday, Gov. Phil Murphy announced.
The move comes a day after Murphy closed all casinos, bars, movie theaters, nightclubs, performing arts centers and gyms until further notice and set a voluntary curfew, asking all residents to stay home between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
With more testing available, cases in New Jersey are ramping up, as health experts predicted. The state’s cases rose to 267 Tuesday, an increase of 89 in a single day.
