Hackensack NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced today the arrests of TYRONE GOINS (DOB: 02/14/80; single; and unemployed) of 90 Prospect Avenue, Hackensack, New Jersey and his brother, TRAVIS GOINS (DOB: 01/25/85; single; and employed as a driver) of 44 Brookway Avenue, Englewood, New Jersey. The arrests are the culmination of a three-month-long investigation by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti, along with a multi-jurisdictional burglary task force comprised of detectives from Fort Lee, Paramus, Cliffside Park, Tenafly, Saddle River, and Teaneck police departments.

In response to a reported increase of residential burglaries in the eastern part of Bergen County, detectives from the affected towns met and shared information about the burglaries. As a result, a task force was formed and a joint investigation began.

On the evening of June 8, 2017, task force detectives were conducting physical surveillance in the Borough of Cliffside Park. TYRONE GOINS and TRAVIS GOINS were observed in a vehicle that circled the same blocks for a period of time. Shortly after the vehicle left the area, detectives confirmed that a burglary had been committed to a residence on Washington Avenue in Cliffside Park. Detectives were able to locate the suspects’ vehicle and conduct a motor vehicle stop.

TYRONE GOINS and TRAVIS GOINS were each charged with one count of Burglary, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C18-2A(1), a crime of the 3rd degree, for the Washington Avenue, Cliffside Park burglary along with an additional count of Burglary, for an April 27th, 2017 residential burglary to a Cliffside Park residence on West End Avenue. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are expected.

Tyrone GOINS and Travis GOINS are currently lodged in the Bergen County Jail, pending a detention hearing.

Prosecutor Grewal states that the charges against the defendants are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and would also like to thank the Fort Lee, Paramus, Cliffside Park, Tenafly, Saddle River and Teaneck Police Departments for their assistance with this investigation.

Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi to Hold Town Hall on Court Forced Overdevelopment in Bergen County

CBD high density housing

May 25,2017

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Paramus NJ, Under recent affordable housing rulings by the NJ Supreme Court, our communities are being forced to permit construction of up to  1.5 MILLION new units of unneeded housing in order to satisfy a fictitious population increase of 30 percent in the next 9 years.

Protect our State from ridiculous affordable housing court mandates (which may result in over 1.5 MILLION new units of housing in NJ) by supporting A-4666 and A-4667 to stop the Court actions and study the issue while we still can.

Many of our NJ residents are unaware that their communities will be forced to DOUBLE their housing population in just the next 9 years, destroying all existing housing prices.

Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi  is now asking of volunteers. “I’m going to need all volunteers willing to help. I’ve received permission to host a “town hall” session on June 15th at 5:30 at Bergen Community College in Paramus. If the NJ Legislature won’t hold meetings on housing affordability and court forced overdevelopment, I will. The intent of this meeting is to host an open hearing to gain thoughts, concerns and options from members of the public, Mayors and Councils, planners, engineers, traffic experts, board of education members, environmental groups, etc. I will personally pay for transcripts of this hearing and will have them delivered to the Legislature. This will be the first of numerous hearings held throughout the entire State. I will draft a formal letter tomorrow for distribution throughout the County. Anyone willing to help out in the circulation efforts would be greatly appreciated. If you have an hour or two to spare please call my office (201) 666-0881 and ask for Doreen.”

Paramus resident’s commuter proposal gets attention

PARAMUS — The efforts of one concerned commuter saw the first signs of fruition last week.

In its latest newsletter, the borough published a commuter survey intended to gauge Paramus residents’ views regarding their commutes to and from work. That survey, which has been months in the making, was the result of a call to action by resident Robert Denicola last year.

The 13-question survey asked residents whether they used public transportation for their commutes, the kind of transportation they used, and the lengths of their commutes. It also asked if residents would support a borough shuttle to “lessen your commuting burden,” and if they would be willing to pay for that service.

N.J. man who disguised foreign donations to Obama campaign gets probation

Obama-Golf

NEWARK — A Bergen County man was sentenced Thursday to a year of federal probation after admitting he helped disguise $80,000 in foreign contributions to Barack Obama’s 2012 campaign committee in order to help Albanian politician attend a campaign event.

Bilal Shehu, of Paramus, previously pleaded guilty in the U.S. District Court in Newark to charges he “knowingly and willfully” made foreign contributions to the committee, according to the office of U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman.

The case stemmed from an appearance Shehu and Edi Rama, head of the Albanian Socialist Party and now the country’s prime minister, made at an October 2012 Obama campaign event in San Francisco.

Prosecutors say Rama was denied admission to the event but managed to be photographed with the president.

Ridgewood Campus Will Be Maintained for Outpatient Services

January 27,2017

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Paramus, NJ, The Valley Hospital will build a new, state-of-the-art hospital in Paramus, announced Audrey Meyers, President and CEO of The Valley Hospital and Valley Health System.  Meyers, who was joined by members of Valley’s Board of Trustees, elected officials, and community leaders in making the announcement, said the new facility will allow Valley to meet the long-term healthcare needs of northern New Jersey and ensures that residents have access to the highest quality of care.

On February 1, Valley will file a Certificate of Need application with the New Jersey Department of Health, which must approve the hospital relocation. Valley anticipates breaking ground in 2019 and the new hospital could open as early as 2023.

The planned site for the new hospital campus is conveniently located on Winters Avenue in Paramus, just 2.5 miles from Valley’s current location in Ridgewood and directly across the street from the hospital’s comprehensive cancer and same-day-surgery centers (The Luckow Pavilion).  Winters Avenue runs parallel to Route 17 and the Garden State Parkway between East Ridgewood Avenue and A&S Drive.  The hospital’s property is located near the Fashion Center and Paramus Park mall.

While the new hospital has not yet been designed, it will be a state-of-the-art, welcoming hospital that incorporates the best practices in healthcare facility design. Conceptual plans call for a 372-bed, approximately 910,000 square-foot facility that will range in height from three to seven stories. The facility will be designed, constructed, operated and maintained using “green” or environmentally friendly principles and processes and will be in full compliance with the Paramus’ zoning ordinances.

Moving inpatient and emergency services to Paramus will allow Valley to repurpose its current campus in Ridgewood for a broad range of healthcare services, including an urgent-care center, and laboratory, radiology and endoscopy services. In addition, Valley plans to consolidate existing ambulatory and outpatient services and health system business functions back to the Ridgewood campus.

“The ‘New’ Valley Hospital will combine Valley’s exceptional level of care and dedicated staff with the latest innovations and advancements in healthcare,” said Meyers. “This new state-of-the-art facility will allow us to raise the bar in all that we do – providing world class healthcare, strengthening our communities and helping people and families live healthier lives.”

U.S. Senator Robert Menendez, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5), State Senator Bob Gordon, Assemblyman Joseph Lagana, Bergen County Executive James J. Tedesco III, and Paramus Mayor Richard LaBarbiera were among the elected officials on hand to show their support for the new hospital.  Senator Menendez, Assemblyman Lagana and County Executive Tedesco also reside in the Borough of Paramus, “Valley has long been a valued member of the Paramus community and we are excited to be the future home of The Valley Hospital,” said Mayor LaBarbiera. “The ‘New’ Valley Hospital will help revitalize an aging industrial and office-use area of Paramus, bring much needed roadway improvements, provide economic benefits for the entire town, and diversify a retail-dependent tax base. Valley has always supported Paramus through sponsorships and community programs, and consistent with their philosophy of giving back, Valley has committed to work with us on new initiatives.”

“Valley’s continuous efforts to innovate and elevate the level of care they provide demonstrates their steadfast dedication to the people they serve,” said U.S. Senator Bob Menendez.  “The “New” Valley Hospital means increased services for patients, more jobs for area residents, and greater access for families across northern New Jersey to the latest advancements in healthcare now and in the future.”

“I am excited about the potential for Valley’s new, modern hospital to transform care for our residents and bolster our economy by supporting local businesses and bringing good jobs to northern New Jersey,” said Congressman Gottheimer.

“For all of us who live here, raise our families here or work here, access to quality healthcare is an essential component of our quality of life.  Valley has been the hospital of choice for my family, and this new project will ensure future generations have access to the highest quality care,” said Senator Bob Gordon.

“This is a milestone day for Bergen County,” said County Executive Tedesco. “Valley’s commitment to the community has been unwavering, and this exciting project will not only provide greater access to healthcare for the residents of Bergen County, but will also strengthen our local economy by creating new jobs. Bergen County is well on its way to becoming the healthcare hub of the state.”

The “New” Valley Hospital will incorporate cutting-edge technology and the latest innovations and best practices in healthcare facility design. It is being designed from the ground up to integrate innovative technology and the flexibility required to accommodate new and emerging healthcare models. To enhance privacy and comfort as well as improve the quality of care provided, the new hospital will be built with single-patient rooms. Research has found that patients cared for in single-patient rooms experience shorter lengths of stay, fewer sleep disturbances and lower rates of hospital-acquired infections.

The plans for the new hospital also call for the creation of universally sized rooms for surgery and procedures. These rooms will be designed to accommodate the latest in healthcare technology and meet all of the standards to allow them to be used for general surgery, minimally invasive robotic surgery, cardiac catheterizations or endovascular procedures.

“While our staff has long been recognized for the quality of care they deliver to our patients in Ridgewood – where we consistently rank at the top of patient satisfaction in New Jersey – modern, single-patient rooms in our new facility will allow us to provide our patients and their families with an even higher level of care and service,” said Meyers.

Meyers said that Valley is committed to working with the town to improve traffic flow in the area and that one of the advantages to this site were its multiple entry and exit points, which would mitigate any impact to local streets.

“We very much look forward to continuing to work with Mayor LaBarbiera and the Council, and will be hosting Town Hall meetings for the residents of Paramus to introduce our project to the Borough,” said Meyers.

Valley has launched a new website, www.TheNewValleyHospital.com and a Facebook page, Facebook.com/TheNewValleyHospital, where interested visitors can learn more about the proposed healthcare facility and stay up-to-date with the hospital’s plans.

Paramus Pipe Cracks Under Pressure

PSEG wtf

JANUARY 18, 2017

by JOE FORLINE, VP, GAS OPERATIONS – PSE&G

Paramus NJ, A 64-year-old, 12-inch, cast iron gas main cracked in Paramus last week. Traffic snarled on Rt. 17 while we made emergency repairs…again. That was the third time in two years we’ve had to patch up this section of pipe. Installation of a replacement gas main is underway.

After decades of freezing and thawing, unprotected steel and cast iron pipes can become brittle and crack, and the joints that tie them together can leak. Along that stretch of Rt. 17, nearby construction may be another contributing factor. We have 4,000 miles of this cast iron pipe, and another 1,000 miles of unprotected steel, in our system. That’s the largest inventory of any utility in the U.S. We have so much old piping because PSE&G has been serving customers for 113 years.

As part of a $905 million program approved by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, we’re replacing old pipes three times faster than in the past. Last year alone, we installed 189 miles of new gas mains across our service area, including nearly 6 miles in Paramus. And we’re replacing them with highly durable plastic piping and protected steel pipes that rarely leak and will ensure safe, reliable gas service now and in the future.

For us to replace all this pipe in Paramus, we are working closely with Paramus Mayor Richard LaBarbiera. Mayor LaBarbiera  knows the investments PSE&G is making in his town’s infrastructure ensure residents and businesses will continue to have safe and reliable gas service. By working together, we are minimizing disruption and able to complete the work safely. And we are all grateful to the residents of Paramus for their patience.

We expect to have the pipes along that stretch of Rt. 17 replaced by April. There is never a good time to close traffic lanes. So while the work is a one-time inconvenience, rest assured we won’t be back to make repairs on those new mains for a long, long time.

Online retailing giant Amazon is planning to add 100,000 full-time jobs in the U.S. over the next year and a half, including 2,500 in New Jersey, the company said in a statement Thursday.

The jobs include entry-level work and skilled positions like engineers and software developers. The full-time positions will also come with benefits.

The company already employs 11,000 people at seven sites in the state. The new hires will work at additional “fulfillment centers,” the company said.

The remainder of the new hires will staff facilities in Washington, Texas, California, Kentucky, Illinois and Florida.

The news comes as Amazon also announced it would be opening a bookstore at the Garden State Plaza in Paramus, one of five stores the company plans to open in New York, Massachusetts and Illinois.

In July, the company announced plans to lease a 617,000-square-foot warehouse in Teterboro as part of its plan to grow its footprint in the state. In 2015, the company cut the ribbon on a massive shipping facility in Robbinsville.
