NJSIAA Revises Guidelines on Spectators Attending Games

Ridgewood NJ, As it continues addressing challenges unique to the coronavirus pandemic, the NJSIAA today released updated guidelines related to transfers and spectators attending games.

Regarding transfers, while NJSIAA will continue to prohibit students from transferring for athletic advantage, it has modified what it identifies as “athletic advantage.” For the 2020-21 school year, a transfer for athletic advantage will not include a transfer made because the student’s school cancels or postpones an athletic program due to the pandemic. However any student who transfers after September 1, regardless of the reason, will be required to sit for half of the fall season, or 30 days, whichever is shorter. Fuller details on this revision and others related to transfers are available online, HERE .

By  Colleen Maguire, NJSIAA Chief Operating Officer NJSIAA

Ridgewood NJ, During the past five months, the lives of our student-athletes have changed drastically.  Last March, NJSIAA made the difficult decision to shut down high school sports.  That decision was necessary to slow infections and to allow for mitigation efforts to be established.  However, cancelling high school sports has come at a significant cost – the emotional and social well-being of our student-athletes.  We need to return to sports this fall.

Ridgewood High School Alumni Association to postpone Homecoming until the fall of 2021

rhs 2020

Dear RHS Community,

You may be aware that last year the Ridgewood High School Alumni Association hosted its inaugural Homecoming/Reunion Weekend.  We endeavored to centralize Reunions to allow for more camaraderie between celebratory classes and offered an opportunity to visit your Alma Mater hosted by current ambassadors on a coordinated weekend.  We were excited to make our second annual Homecoming weekend that much more special this October when the classes ending in five and zero celebrated their respective reunions.  Unfortunately, the Ridgewood High School Alumni Association has made the difficult decision to postpone Homecoming until the fall of 2021.

Ridgewo0d NJ, Dr. Fishbein began by explaining that the primary concern when developing the reopening plan was the health and safety of our students and staff. Since districts are getting information from the Governor’s office and the Department of Education daily, everything is subject to change, and we need to be prepared to pivot at any time. The presentation, along with a link to a survey, will be embedded in a letter to parents which is being emailed on Tuesday, July 28. Transition to September was presented by Ms. Poelstra, who began by thanking the many stakeholders for their input and contributions to the development of the plan.

Ridgewood NJ,  a reader commented ,”They are in the process of ripping out the old turf at Stevens after a questionable process that Dr. Fishbein orchestrated. As a result of his misinformation to Board members, they went with a product that is inferior to other products offered at a competitive price with a firm with multiple law suits filed against them in New Jersey alone. I would have settled for the recent turf replacement which was installed at Maple Field as it was an improvement over RHS Stadium and now Stevens. I am not disappointed in Dr. Fishbein because I expected his poor behavior. I just don’t know why except it is a bad case of administrative obstinance: my way or the High way.”

Reader suggests that if in Session the Schools would have Authorized and Encouraged BLM protests

RHS_theridgewoodblog

“Thinks that, had this season of protests come before the Ridgewood District sent all of its students home, our high school Principal Gorman would have been fairly tripping over himself to pause academic instruction and authorize and encourage a walkout and a rollicking good BLM protest by the maximum number of RHS students during the school day, all fully covered by prog-friendly media outlets. Because powder keg, dontcha know.”
