Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Police Patrol Officer Jack Knudsen was assigned to investigate a Wednesday morning, 09/05, crash in which the driver of landscaping company’s dump truck lost control of the vehicle, which then veered off the roadway, down an embankment, over a retaining wall, and into a children’s backyard swing set before it came to a stop. Remarkably, there were no reported injuries in the incident. A heavy duty tow truck equipped with a hydraulic crane removed the dump truck and its attached trailer from their predicament. Officer Knudsen noted that the accident caused damage at two (2) properties at the accident site (Beechwood Road and Palmer Court). He would not comment as to the nature of summonses issued, if any. Ridgewood Fire Department and Ridgewood EMS also responded to the incident.

Ridgewood NJ, On Saturday September 3, 2017 Engine 35, staffed with 3 EMT certified Firefighters, was dispatched to a reported woman in labor. Upon arrival at the home approximately 4 minutes later, we had found that the baby had been delivered by the father prior to the arrival of emergency service personnel and the first arriving police officers and the duty EMT were tending to the mother and a healthy newborn.

The crew of Engine 35 assisted in this care until the arrival of Ridgewood EMS medical director Dr. Lahita, who assumed care and cut the umbilical cord prior to transport to the hospital. As part of our daily assignments and duties, one of our Firefighters rounded out the ambulance crew and continued on to the hospital with the second EMT. Both mother and child were doing well upon arriving at the hospital.

A child birth is a very happy occasion and the crew was very glad to be part of it. Local 47 wishes the family well!

Service with EMS was gratifying

Angela Altschuler, RN retired

to the Editor:I was an active member of Ridgewood EMS for more than 25 years and a former resident of Ridgewood for 32 years. I have to say they were the most gratifying years of my life. The relationships I formed with other members will continue for years to come.

There is nothing so satisfying as to help someone in need, whether it is in an acute situation or helping a person get settled comfortably at home after a hospital stay. Both situations are equally important.

Ridgewood EMS has the reputation for providing exemplary care to its citizens and visitors to the village. This is possible by having continuous education to the members and providing them with the most up to date equipment.
