“Changes will ultimately be decided by the NJEA and dictated to state government and the various school districts. At the very least, the NJEA will effectively hold veto power on any and all changes that are proposed to life in our public schools in response to COVID-19. For their part, the powers that be know not to push too hard for changes of which the NJEA will not approve. The final plan will preserve all of the jobs, pay and benefits the teachers and administrators currently enjoy, and disadvantage students more or less exclusively. It will amount to a huge middle digit to parents of current students, and to sheep-like taxpayers who diligently fund this nonsense year-in and year-out.”

“It must be a full moon. In addition to Voigt’s rather bizarre letter to the editor, word on the street is that Siobhan “Karen” Winograd, the “rules with an iron fist” administrator of the Ridgewood Moms and Dads (without free speech) Facebook group, is extremely upset that people are posting nasty comments about her on social media. She’s even resorted to calling some leaders of the opposing faction to explain (while crying) why she does the things she does. Is she for real? Seriously Karen? If a user so much as says “boo” on Ridgewood Moms and Dads, they are removed from the group and blocked from seeing that the group even exists. If someone glares at her in a public meeting, she files a police report. She’s even resorted to publicly referring to someone she dislikes as a “child predator” in an attempt to discredit him. Get real Karen. When you behave like a Nazi, you should expect a huge backlash. Your platform is going down in flames and it’s all your fault. Stop whining and face the facts. You’re all done here. We’ve had enough. Perhaps you and Mr. Voigt should just leave town together. Bye, bye O!”

“All this protesting etc is not doing any good at all. I am a senior citizen and seeing this all happen makes me very sad because I see minds being infiltrated with disbelief and critical thinking removed. Only recently when visiting I saw in the window of the Little Skye Children’s Boutique small shirts stating “Black Lives Matter.” How very sad. How does one explain to small children that only black lives matter. What happened to all lives matter. The beauty of small children is that they do not see the difference . They enjoy each other as children should. This should not be something that they need to process. As small children they need to know that there is no difference. The color of skin makes no difference. This is insulting. What has happened to trying to understand that we do not all have the same beliefs, the same color of skin, the same backgrounds, etc. But, we are all human beings. And, where are the parents that need to teach this?”

Did Protesters Drive Away Shoppers and Dinners and Will they Return to Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ,  a reader asked , “Do you think that the Village had intelligence that there would be a protest like this and that’s why they cancelled the CBD restaurant mall  ?” It does appear to be the case and the Village can be commended for taking action to ensure the safety of residents ,businesses and protesters ,but it does raise some issues as to why the Central Business District continues to get the shaft from the Village. Will Ridgewood CBD continue its comeback attempt to once again be a viable post pandemic downtown  or will shoppers and dinners flee and not return do to protests and unrest ?

NJ REALTORS: MAY HOUSING NUMBERS INDICATE RECOVERY ON THE WAY

Ridgewood NJ, Recovery is coming for the housing market, according to statewide data from New Jersey Realtors. While much of the percentage changes are still in the red, the overall picture is positive, with numbers for closings and sales trending upward.

Year-over-year numbers are still in negative territory however, the month-to-month changes for the total market indicate growth. In April there were just 6,162 pending sales, while May pending sales jumped to 10,237. New listings for April totaled 7,272 but May rose to 12,822.

New Jersey’s Department of Health Issues Safety Guidelines for Summer Youth Camps Beginning July 6th

Ridgewood NJ,  New Jersey’s Department of Health today issued COVID-19 health and safety guidelines for summer youth camps following Governor Murphy’s executive order allowing operations beginning July 6.

The opening of youth day camps will provide New Jersey families who are in need of childcare services with a viable option in addition to traditional childcare centers. The guidelines provide procedures for camp operators to implement health and safety standards for staff and campers such as screening, hygiene, social distancing and staff/camper ratios.

According to a complaint announced today by the Federal Trade Commission, HyperBeard Inc., a mobile app developer, offered free apps to children under 13-years-old and unlawfully collected their personal information to direct targeted advertising to them, in violation of the Children’s Online Privacy and Protection Act (COPPA).

– Spoiled ineffective RW parents can’t manage their privileged selfish children.

– Spineless RW school system won’t implement (let alone enforce) any mandatory structure nor enforce any substantive academic standards.

– Teachers whine about how hard they are working and what challenges they are overcoming

– NJEA/NEA are conflicted over whether it is more beneficial to the teachers (I mean students, wink, wink), to push for reopening schools in September or to push to keep schools closed in September.

– RW parents post teacher support signs on their lawns and publically espouse what heroes the teachers are while privately complaining about how the teachers are failing to address their kids needs (while never making sure their child attends virtual class or does his homework).”

“There is nothing happening at the BOE that is truly transparent because Board members do not see themselves as representatives of the people but as an agent (s)of the superintendent. Committee meeting reports are rarely heard . For years minutes were not kept. Until recently you never even heard real discussions. The last public comment session takes place before the last agenda items which often include important items relevant to those attending and those watching from home. Mr. Dani attends meetings and asks politely for information that should be readily available to the public but doesn’t receive it. This happens to others as well. He pursued his request and we found out that there is no policy that precludes Bof E members from conducting business on private email accounts. This must be corrected. Also, without the questions regarding the bond referendum , we would be looking at an additional vote this year on a 95 million dollar bond on top of the 115 million dollar budget vote.”

Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood Board of Education Election (to vote on the Board of Education budget and elect one Board of Education member for an unexpired 1-year term and two Board of Education members to three-year terms) and the Ridgewood Municipal Election (to elect three Village Council members to 4-year terms) will be held on the same date, May 12, 2020.  These elections will be a Vote by Mail election only.  There will be two separate ballots in the envelope sent to you, one for the Board of Education and the second one for the Village Council.  Vote by mail ballots will be mailed to all registered voters, no later than April 24, 2020.  The Vote by Mail ballots must be postmarked by May 12, 2020 and received at the County by May 14, 2020.  Therefore, please vote your ballot and mail it back, as soon as possible so that your vote will count.  The envelopes included with the ballots are postage paid.
