Contractor Intervenes in Dog Attack of a Child in Teaneck

Teaneck NJ, according to Teaneck Deputy Police Chief Andrew McGurr,  officers responded to a report of a 4-year-old girl being attacked by a dog at about 3:14 p.m. in the driveway at 137 Voorhees Street.  “The mother reported to the officers that a loose brown-haired pit bull had just attacked her and her daughter as the mother was attempting to remove her daughter from a car seat in the rear of their vehicle,” Deputy Chief Andrew McGurr said. “A contractor, who was working on the block and heard the commotion, came to their aid and was able to get the dog to flee the scene.”

McDonald’s Tests New Automated Robot Restaurant With No Human Contact

Ridgewood NJ, McDonald’s is testing its first fully-automated restaurant in Fort Worth, Texas. Customers are able to go to the store and pick up a meal without interacting with anyone. The food is still cooked by humans, but they remain in the kitchen. Food is delivered via a conveyor belt. The restaurant only caters to takeaway and drive-thru orders.

Former Employee Launches Suit Against Alpine Country Club Claiming Harassment, and Discrimination

Alpine NJ, in a suit filed in Bergen County Superior Court last week, a former employee at the Alpine Country Club is accusing the club and its food and drink manager of gender and racial discrimination, plus harassment against her and other female employees.

SpaceX Starlink Cell Service in the Offering

Ridgewood NJ, SpaceX filed an application with the US FCC on December 6 for authorization to equip some of its Starlink satellites with direct-to-cellular hardware. The FCC recently authorized SpaceX to launch 7,500 second-generation Starlink satellites before the end of the decade. If the direct-to-cellular hardware is approved, Starlink will be able to provide voice, messaging, and basic web browsing capabilities to mobile devices. SpaceX plans to offer smartphone coverage as soon as 2024.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 60% of American Adults consider Christmas to be one of our nation’s most important holidays, up from 59% last year.  Just six percent (6%) consider Christmas one of the least important holidays, while 29% place Christmas somewhere in between. Air temperatures are quickly dropping into the teens and 20s, which may result in patchy black ice on elevated roadways, overpasses and bridges for the evening commute. Black ice is nearly impossible to see and roadways may appear only wet. Please use extreme caution, especially on bridges, overpasses and around curves through the evening commute.

Allow plenty of stopping distance and avoid braking suddenly. In addition, gusty west winds will produce wind chill values between 5 and 15 below zero this evening through Saturday morning, with air temperatures in the single digits and teens. Frostbite can occur in a short amount of time, dress in layers and make sure all exposed skin is protected.

Large Tree Falls on a Home in Fair Lawn Trapping Residents

Fair Lawn NJ, Fair Lawn Police, Fair Lawn Fire Department, Fair Lawn EMS, and Fair Lawn Rescue Squad units rushed to free the occupants of a single family home on Jordan Road, Fair Lawn, who became trapped inside after a large tree limb fell onto home’s roof shortly before 9:00 PM, Friday, 12/23. All occupants were safely extricated from the structure by first responders. No injuries were reported. The home was “red tagged” by a Borough of Fair Lawn building inspector; utilities were completely shut off by utility company representatives.

Porsche’s Synthetic Gasoline Factory Goes Online in Chile

Ridgewood NJ, Highly Innovative Fuels, a Chilean startup, has opened its first synthetic gasoline production facility. The site will initially produce around 34,000 gallons a year. It plans to scale up to 14.5 million gallons a year by 2024 and 145 million gallons a year by 2026. The site uses wind power to electrolyze water into hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen is then combined with carbon captured from the air or industrial sources to synthesize methanol, which is then converted into longer hydrocarbons to be used as fuel. The resulting fuel is a direct replacement for pump gasoline.
