Christmas Tree Shops files for Bankruptcy

Paramus NJ, Christmas Tree Shops, a home-decor retailer that was spun off from Bed Bath & Beyond in 2020, filed for bankruptcy protection on Friday. Christmas Tree Shops (CTS) said in a statement that its bankruptcy was a “strictly financial restructuring,” and that most of its stores would remain open without disruption.

Johnson & Johnson spin off Kenvue Consumer Brands Largest Initial Public Offering in More than a Year

Summit NJ, Johnson & Johnson spun off its Kenvue consumer brands division on Thursday, raising the most cash from an initial public offering (IPO) in more than a year. Johnson & Johnson said it sold 172.8 million shares(opens in new tab) at $22 a pop in Kenvue, giving the company whose brands include Band-Aid, Tylenol and Listerine a valuation of roughly $40 billion.

Paramus NJ,  Governor Phil Murphy visited Paramus Fire Company 3 to highlight his proposed addition of $10 million in American Rescue Plan (ARP) funding for Fiscal Year 2024 to support the continuation of the Firefighter Grant Program, which first launched in May 2022. The ARP Firefighter Grant Program provides funding to local and regional fire departments across New Jersey to ensure firefighters have proper protective, cleaning, and sanitization equipment.

Long Live Remote Work: MTA’s Congestion Pricing to Cost NJ Drivers from $9 to $23 to Drive South of 60th Street in Manhattan

Ridgewood NJ, The Federal Highway Administration approved the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s plan to add a controversial toll (congestion pricing) around Manhattan’s central business district. A group of Congress members from New Jersey both Democrats and Republicans – called on New York Governor Kathy Hochul to cancel the plan, saying that it will “impose significant new costs” on New Jersey commuters and families. The signees included Reps. Thomas Kean Jr., Frank Pallone Jr., Bill Pascrell Jr., Donald Payne Jr., Mikie Sherrill, Jeff Van Drew and Bonnie Watson Coleman.

Church Hit in Late Night Crash in Fair Lawn

Fair Lawn NJ, a 2-door Honda Accord slammed into a church located at 22-15 Broadway (westbound Broadway), Fair Lawn late Friday night, 05/05. The vehicle’s adult driver was treated at the scene by a Fair Lawn EMS crew and released at the scene. No apparent structural damage to the church was noted. However, one (1) or more traffic control barriers filled with dirt were damaged in the crash and dirt splattered all over the church’s front facing facade. A flatbed tow truck removed the totaled Honda from the scene.

Ridgewood Police Officer Helps Motorist in Maple Avenue Parking Lot Mishap

Ridgewood NJ, it happens about every 6-9 months due to a poor parking lot design.  No injury to driver, and vehicle was not damaged.  Ridgewood Police Patrol Officer Christopher Mormino assisted the driver.  All Points Towing gave an assist.  Parking lot is located at Ridgewood Orthopedic Group, 85 South Maple Avenue, Ridgewood.

Ridgewood NJ, former Ridgewood Police Chief John Ward has taken a new job as supervisor of school security and safety at the Centennial School District in Warminster, PA. The Centennial School District school board, in a 9-0 unanimous vote approved the hiring of John Ward —who has served as police chief for the Stroud Area Regional Police, and Ridgewood Police Department —as the district’s school police officer position.

Thursday Afternoon Fire Renders a 2-family on Walton Street, in Ridgewood Uninhabitable

Ridgewood NJ, a multi-alarm, early Thursday afternoon, 05/04, rendered a 2-family home located in the 200 block of Walton Street, in Ridgewood uninhabitable. The fire reportedly began in the attic, and may have spread to portions of the building’s second floor. Ridgewood firefighters had the blaze under control within 30 minutes of their arrival on site. Firefighters from Ho-Ho-Kus Fire Department assisted at the scene. All occupants of the home had safely evacuated prior to the arrival of Ridgewood police officers, Ridgewood firefighters and Ridgewood Emergency Services ; no injuries were reported.

Driver Dies in Overturned Dump Truck Crash on I-287 in Oakland

Oakland NJ, a truck driver died on Thursday when the dump truck he was driving overturned on Interstate 287. NJ State police say that the crash happened around 7:45 a.m. on Interstate 287 South in Oakland.
The driver was identified as 56-year-old Ronald Appel, of Riverdale. Police say the dump truck struck a guardrail and the truck overturned. He died in the crash. Parts of I-287 were closed for a time, backing up traffic. The roadway has since reopened.
