Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Police Traffic Safety Bureau has had multiple incidents where we have made motor vehicle stops for unsafe driving and have found High School students without a license and in possession of only a permit. These students have been driving to and from school as well as driving around after school, without being accompanied by an Adult Supervising Driver, as required by law. After having conversations with the student drivers, as well as parents in the community and the school, we have found that this is considered an acceptable practice by some parents and students. We cannot stress enough how unsafe and illegal this is. We see an excessive amount of dangerous and risky driving associated with unlicensed drivers. We would like to take this opportunity to inform both the parents and the children the consequences of these actions.

Ridgewood Schools Alternative Schedules Initiative Community Presentation

November 29, 2021

Dear Ridgewood Public Schools Community,

As part of the Alternative Schedules Initiative, the District is investigating new K-12 schedule options, as well as alternative start and end times. Research by the American Academy of Pediatrics, as well as other well-documented studies, indicates that a later start time for adolescents helps align their circadian rhythms resulting in improved physical health, academic performance, safety, and overall wellbeing. Given our commitment to nurturing the development of the whole child, we believe we would be remiss if we did not examine the current structure of our school day and consider potential adjustments that reflect these data.

Ridgewood Board of Education Survey Receives Only 20 Responses ?

Ridgewood NJ, at Monday night’s Ridgewood Board of Education meeting, Dr. Gorman and board members speculated that the reason that their last survey only received 20 responses was that parents completely trusted administrators and were very content. Perhaps, parents are busy and overwhelmed and have no time to read complicated emails.
In case parents just missed the survey, let me explain the issue. The district received nearly $2m from the federal government to help students and families and schools struggling to recover from remote education. How should they spend that money? On tutoring, mental health initiatives, and summer school? Or on air filters and substitute teachers? Let the board know. The budget has to be finalized by November 24th ( Ridgewood voters no longer vote of the school budget) .

Reader Calls Chris Kaufman, “a fractured Board Member”

external content.duckduckgo 24

Chris (Kaufman) is a fractured Board Member, all he does at this point is raise opposing views for no other reason than to hear his own voice, most of his arguments are just for the sake of arguing because of the changing dynamics of the school board which he has no control over. When a board is ‘fractured’ by just one member it can barely function. Why is it that a tenured board member, chooses to run for re-election with his buddy (“Lastly, I have chosen to run with my friend Mahmoud.”) ? It’s because he realizes that he can no longer stand on his own two feet, and in addition, to present an even deeper divide to the board in the event that they both are elected. Chris should finish his term, and leave his volunteer post, there is only positive in having served, by running for re-election all he is doing is cementing a negative, lets do him a favor and keep him on the positive side of the volunteer ledger and cast your vote for a fresh volunteer board member. Mahmoud is barely present, so no mention.
