Paramus NJ, A bomb threat forced the evacuation and temporary closure of Bergen Community College’s Paramus campus on the morning of Thursday, 05/04. Paramus PD, EMS, FD, and Rescue Squad responded along with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division. The campus was closed from just before 11 AM until 2 PM.

According to the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, email threats were received against three Bergen County sites , the courthouse, the County administration building and  Lyndhurst and Paramus campuses of Bergen Community College .

Paramus NJ, A Honda SUV traveling southbound on the Garden State Parkway (GSP) near Route 4 in Paramus on Sunday evening, 04/23, careened off of the roadway’s right shoulder, down a steep embankment, and wound up on the grassy shoulder of Route 4 westbound near an entrance ramp to the GSP southbound. Witnesses reported that the vehicle completely flipped over at least once during the crash. Paramus PD, FD, EMS, and Rescue Squad personnel all responded to aid the driver, who was transported by ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center’s (HUMC) main campus with life threatening injuries. A paramedic team from HUMC also responded to the scene. The crash is being investigated by a trooper from the New Jersey State Police GSP Patrol Division, Bloomfield Barracks.

Paramus NJ, An empty shipping container being transported by a tractor trailer on Route 17 southbound in Paramus, broke loose from its tie down devices, hit a overpass at Midland Avenue, and fell to the roadway striking an SUV in the process. No one was injured in the incident, which occurred early Wednesday afternoon, 04/05, but traffic on Route 17 southbound through Paramus was negatively impacted for several hours while the roadway was cleared of the container and the overpass was inspected. Paramus PD and NJDOT managed the incident scene. Two (2) heavy duty wreckers and a flat bed trailer were needed to remove and transport the damaged container from the scene.

Paramus NJ, An aerial lift platform trailer being towed by a pick up truck rolled over on Route 17 southbound in Paramus on Monday afternoon, 03/20. Only one (1) travel lane of traffic on Route 17 southbound near A&S Drive remained open while two (2) flatbed tow trucks worked in unison to right the device. No injuries were reported in the mishap. Paramus PD responded to the incident. The trailer was removed from the scene by one of the aforementioned flatbed tow trucks.

Paramus NJ, No injuries were reported following a two (2) vehicle Friday afternoon, 03/10, crash on Route 17 northbound in Paramus during which an SUV left the roadway and hit a tree head on. Both occupants of the SUV were uninjured, as was the driver of the other vehicle involved (a pick up truck towing an equipment trailer). Paramus PD and FD personnel responded to the incident, which occurred just north of Ridgewood Avenue. The SUV was removed from the scene by a tow truck. No damage was apparent on the other vehicle(s) involved.

Paramus NJ, Paramus PD issued at least one (1) summons to the adult female driver of a 4-door Honda Accord following a Saturday evening, 01/07 crash in which the vehicle wound up inside the Pier One Imports store located at 723 Route 17 South in Paramus. No one was injured in the incident and there appeared to have been no significant structural damage to the store. The vehicle was removed from the store’s interior by a tow truck. Paramus EMS responded as a precaution; a Borough of Paramus building sub-code official was also present on the scene. Traffic on nearby Route 17 southbound was unaffected by the incident

Paramus NJ, Paramus PD and EMS responded to a car vs. tree motor vehicle accident at the intersection of East Midland Avenue and Roedel Place on Thursday morning, 12/29. The injured driver was transported by a Paramus EMS ambulance to a local hospital. A paramedic team from The Valley Hospital assisted Paramus EMTs with the transport. The wrecked vehicle was removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck.

Paramus NJ, Paramus firefighters battled a multiple alarm fire at Denny Wiggers Landscaping, 387 Paramus Road, Paramus on Monday morning, 11/14. The structure involved was declared uninhabitable due to fire, smoke and water damage. All occupants safely evacuated the building prior to the arrival of fire department personnel. Paramus Road was closed in both directions near the incident scene. Paramus PD and EMS personnel also responded to the scene in force. Fire and rescue personnel from nearby municipalities staffed Paramus FD and Rescue Squad locations during the incident and provided relief at the fire scene.

Paramus NJ, Paramus PD, FD, EMS, and Rescue Squad personnel responded to a rollover motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Century Road East and Route 17 North on Thursday morning, 10/27. Two (2) vehicles were involved in a collision that resulted in one (1) rolling over on its roof. The crash resulted in a fluid spill that required DOT/Hazmat response. A flatbed tow truck removed both vehicles from the location. The number of victims and condition of same was not made available at the scene. A paramedic unit from Hackensack University Medical Center was also dispatched to the incident. One (1) access ramp at the Century Road East/Route 17 North interchange were closed while emergency crews worked.

Paramus NJ, An 86-year-old Paramus woman was injured Thursday morning when a car hit her as she walked her dog, police said. The woman was in “guarded condition” at Hackensack University Medical Center, said a police spokesperson. A car backing out of a driveway near 392 Hickory Avenue around 11:30 a.m. struck her, said the spokesperson. The dog was not hurt. The driver did not receive any summons or charges at the scene but a spokesperson said the investigation was ongoing.

Paramus NJ, Two (2) drivers involved in a late Wednesday afternoon, 06/22, three (3) vehicle collision at the intersection of Oradell Avenue and Pascack Road in Paramus were transported by ambulance to The Valley Hospital with non life threatening injuries. Two (2) of the three (3) vehicles involved were heavily damaged and removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. Paramus PD, FD Company #1, and EMS units responded. A minor crash related fluid spill was attended to by fire department personnel. The crash was reported at 5:55 PM.

Paramus NJ, according to the Paramus Police there have been numerous bear sightings on Midland Ave. west of Rt.17 if seen dont approach,call the Police Dept.

According to New Jersey Fish and Wild life , “Since the 1980s the Garden State’s black bear population has been increasing and expanding its range both southward and eastward from the forested areas of northwestern New Jersey. Within the most densely populated state in the nation, black bears are thriving and there are now confirmed bear sightings in all 21 of New Jersey’s counties.”

The most common bear problem New Jersey’s residents experience is black bears getting into their garbage. Bears are attracted to neighborhoods by garbage odors, so properly securing your garbage is one of the best ways to prevent bears from becoming a nuisance in your community.”

Paramus NJ, Paramus police overnight Monday found 67 puppies packed into small metal crates in a van parked behind the Route 17 Paramus pet store, Just Pups .

Paramus Police officers on a routine patrol of Route 17 noticed a van parked behind the shopping complex where Just Pups Store in Paramus NJ is located. As the Police approached the vehicle, they heard crying and whining from the puppies that were crammed inside.

Last month, the New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals filed 267 animal cruelty charges against the owner of the van , Emerson native Vincent LoSacco, 50 after three dead dogs were recovered from a freezer of his East Brunswick store.

63 aditional puppies were taken in by a Tenafly pet rescuer and sources say authorities in East Brunswick revoked his license last Monday.

Hit and Run Shuts Down 17 north in  Paramus

Paramus NJ, A pedestrian was struck and seriously injured by a hit and run vehicle on Route 17 northbound in Paramus near the Toys ‘R Us store just after 8 PM on Tuesday, 03/15. The victim was transported by ambulance to a hospital. Route 17 northbound between A&S Drive and Ridgewood Avenue was closed to facilitate a police investigation of the incident. Police are said to be looking for a black colored Toyota SUV with heavy front end damage. Numerous vehicle parts were observed strewn about the accident scene. Paramus EMS and Rescue Squad and a paramedic unit from The Valley Hospital were also at the scene.

Paramus NJ, A father and his two (2) young sons escaped injury following a crash in which their Mercedes SUV slid off of northbound Pascack Road near Linwood Avenue in Paramus and became impaled on a utility guy wire. The vehicle was removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. Paramus and Washington Township PD units responded to the incident, which occurred at 8:00 AM on Tuesday, 2/16.
