Former Councilman Voigt Attempts to Rewrite History in Ridgewood News Letter

Jeff Voigt Ridgewood Council

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridghewood NJ, FORMER Councilman Jeffrey D. Voigt submitted a ridiculous piece of fiction to The Ridgewood News in the form of a letter this past week.  We learned from the newspaper that they had to edit out (and they refused to publish) the particularly outlandish paragraphs in which he self-righteously criticized the bullies on social media (he himself is the KING of bullying on social media, posting here on The Blog incessantly).  They also deleted the parts where he talks about how others need to be decent human beings (since he certainly is not one), and how some people are “big men” behind computer screens but not in public – wow, doesn’t this describe this horrible man just perfectly?!  KUDOS to the Ridgewood News for recognizing that even a “DOUCHEBAG” can go too far into the realm of non-science fiction.

“Porta-Potty Park” Promoted by the Ridgewood News

Toilet_garber -square

the staff of the Ridgewood bog

Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood News goes out of it way to promote the grassy knoll at the Ridgewood train station. In “Ridgewood to shrink green space to add commuter parking” the news uses out of context quotes like, “Generally speaking, public spaces act as downtown magnets that draw people into local restaurants and retail, said N. David Milder, a downtown revitalization strategist who has worked in places like Morristown and Englewood.” https://www.northjersey.com/story/news/bergen/ridgewood/2018/08/06/ridgewood-increase-commuter-parking/866926002/

Worse yet the news goes out of it way to quote the usual local discredited suspects like the Conservancy for Clear Cutting Ridgewood Public Lands and obviously fails to visit the gasoline fumed, crabgrass strewn unused patch of dirt that was inhabited by a “porta-potty” and heavy construction equipment for over a year . For a decade the grassy knoll has only attracted commuters fleeing the train station after a long day working in New York City ,because all the quality jobs have long since left New Jersey.

When will this silliness end ? The same folks who promote turf fields all over town in flood zones and high density housing in the central business district with no parking or water are now concerned over what the Ridgewood News called a “pocket park” no one has ever heard of in the train station parking lot.

Next the same people will propose high density housing for the spot , quote the municipal planners who promoted the ‘suicide bike lane” and claim it will reduce traffic , just stop!

Photos courtesy of Jeff Voigt (COUNCILMAN)? Huh?

Jeff Voigt Ridgewood Council

by the staff of The Ridgewood Blog

Ridgewood NJ, As best as we can determine, the photos that COUNCILMAN Voigt is providing of late to The Ridgewood News are appearing in their hard copy newspaper only. That is, none seem to have ever been posted on the affiliated northjersey.com website. That in and of itself is very unusual as their practice typically is to use material on line prior to it being used in the hard copy newspaper. We wonder why The Ridgewood News has established this special procedure for COUNCILMAN Voigt’s photographs?

In his role as COUNCILMAN, Jeff Voigt is provided physical access to areas & events that may be off limits to members of the general public. No doubt, this may be one reason why the newspaper is so happy to be connected with COUNCILMAN Voigt. However, this “business relationship” also affords COUNCILMAN Voigt the opportunity to exclude individuals from his photographs whom he may view as political opponents, and include those whom he may view as political allies.

As taxpayers, many of our staff members take issue with this “business relationship” based on both points noted above and wonder if this “business relationship” constitutes an ethics violation of some sort on the COUNCILMAN’S part?

Hmm.

Former Village Manager should be the last person writing a letter in the Ridgewood News about nepotism

Village_Manager_Roberta_Sonenfeld_theridgewoodblog

March 24,2018

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, Wow Roberta shouldn’t be writing a letter in the Ridgewood News about nepotism. After all when Roberta was Village Manager she was one of the reasons tax payers are stuck with a below market value rent lease at the gatehouse. Roberta’s BFF Stacey Antine from which she knows from a Bergen school they graduated from got a fabulous lease on the gatehouse and a sweet contract for her business. Talk about helping a non tax payer succeed in Ridgewood and personally making sure her business is a success. Not only did Roberta help Stacey, Tim also provided services Healthbarn needed during his time with Parks and Rec.

Since Tim’s departure Nancy Bigos has continued in his place assuring Healthbarn weeps benefits other businesses don’t have access too. Such as classes that run thru Parks and Rec that are run at Healthbarn. Village claims it’s a partnership but Village doesn’t share in her profits. After all Healthbarn is still having its own classes during the Parks and Rec classes so who is helping who succeed?

It’s always baffled me how she got such a sweet deal but then I realized who backed her, the past council excluding Michael & Susan who voted against it. Roberta and Tim helped her along the way giving her perhaps inside information when she presented at VC meeting, because what she presented and what actually goes on isn’t the same. Replacing Tim with Nancy doesn’t change anything since she was one of the pack who brought this business to a neighborhood. It’s time to reflect on how much this business costs the tax payers and think about who has the tax payers back?

With Healthbarn violating her lease on several occasions and from what the neighbors can tell not getting fined only shows that they support the business not the residents.
Enough stop supporting Healthbarn and start supporting the taxpayers needs and concerns!!!!

Reader slams Councilman Voigt’s letter in the Ridgewood News about all the good Healthbarn does for the Village

HealthBarn

One of the most disturbing things is how Councilman Voigt wrote in the Ridgewood News about all the good Healthbarn & Stacey does for the Village. Jeff….news flash so do a lot of charities in the Village but you failed to mention them!! The other charities are run by Village residents something Stacey is NOT. Why does the Village continue to suck up to Healthbarn? Haven’t we given her enough? She has abused her lease over & over again & yet nothing has been done. Healthban already pays under market value for rent extra land for her garden & parking spaces. Sweet deal made possible because she was connected to the right people like her good friend Roberta. Hillcrest neighborhood is suffering because the Village has a blind eye when dealing with Healthbarn. If I was the landlord to a business that has caused a lot of problems to the neighbors & violated the lease multiple times & lied about her business plan I would kick her out!!’ I wouldn’t want to put neighbors in harms way to a business that has charted busses causing dangerous situations on Hillcrest, adults drinking alcohol at her restaurant style dinners & adult parties none of which were discussed at her VC meeting when council voted on it. Those things alone should be cause for termination!!! Not to mention the tent she puts up on park land for hours at a time. She uses way more land then just her garden all for $3,700 a month. Does the Council work for Stacey or for the residents? The way I look at it is Stacey gets a pass when we get fined for leaves in the street. Stop it NOW let’s stop helping Healthbarn successed & treating a non residents business better then the tax payers!!!

Ridgewood NJ, an amazing headline today from the Ridgewood News , especially when you take into account the one sided journalistic arse kissing  and one sided reporting that often take place on their pages . The Ridgewood News like most of New Jersey’s media have been open cheerleaders , excuse makers and supporters for corruption and dishonestly in this ethically challenged state . It’s about time and we say welcome to the real world .

“Semler” Letter Editor of the Ridgewood News Requires Even More Corrections

Ridgewood News letter

Ridgewood NJ, The now infamous letter to the editor from Kira Semler required 2 corrections. The Semler letter to the editor of the Ridgewood news caused a furor on social media at the time. Initially, the letter suggested among other things that the former “breath of fresh air ” Village manager was fired when in fact she resigned. The misinformation in the letter was later edited out by the Ridgewood News but not before the damage was done.

image

The Ridgewood New has now for a second time corrected the letter, the “clarification ” came this past week just as the social media firestorm was dying down. The Ridgewood reaffirmed critics of its editorial policy that the former Village manager did in fact resign on September 6th and she was relieved of her duties on the very same day.

As previously reported the staff of the Ridgewood blog had noticed the letter but felt it was what we call a “put up job” where a local special interest, usually a supporter of the former mayor and his schemes puts up a relative or friend to promote garagezilla and to attack the current council.

Letter to Editor of the Ridgewood News Causes Social media Firestorm

Ridgewood News letter

Ridgewood NJ, recent letter to the editor of the Ridgewood news causes a furor on social media. Initially, the letter suggested among other things that the former “breath of fresh air ” Village manager was fired when in fact she resigned.
The misinformation in the letter was later edited out by the Ridgewood News but not before the damage was done.
The staff of the Ridgewood blog had noticed the letter but felt it was what we call a “put up job” where a local special interest, usually a supporter of the former mayor and his schemes puts up a relative or friend to promote garagezilla and to attack the current council.
The push for garagezilla now being framed as the end all to be all solution in Ridgewood guaranteed to solve all problems in town.
The killer line in the letter for us was,”there are plenty of empty lots in the central business district perfect for a parking garage “.The key words being “empty lots”.
Jacqueline Hone‎ called out the Ridgewood News on Facebook claiming, “RIDGEWOOD FAKE NEWS OUTLET ⁉️ Why didn’t the Ridgewood News fact check? Why would someone write this, lie and stir up faux outrage? “
Even going as far as to post the resignation letter in the comment section, “Below, in comments, our previous Village Manager’s resignation letter. It’s proof our Mayor DID NOT fire her. This letter, Ridgewood News turning into a PR platform…Sad State of Affairs INDEED.”
16806769 10212004953384003 2110332427994247679 n
Which came as a surprise to us after all, with the election Paul Aronsohn both the Ridgewood News and Bergen Record seemed to amount to nothing more than PR for the former mayor and his grandiose plans for the Village of Ridgewood.

Governor Chris Christie : Printing public notices in newspapers is nothing more than an ‘unfunded mandate’

bergen record

file photo by Boyd Loving

December 20,2016

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood NJ, Governor Chris Christie today released the following opinion editorial on legislation being considered that would update mandates requiring certain legal notices to be published in newspapers. It can be found in full below or on medium.com.

“On Thursday, the Legislature advanced a commonsense piece of legislation that was first proposed in 2004 and will reform the archaic practice of requiring taxpayers and private businesses to pay for costly legal notices in print newspapers. The legislation provides the option of posting notices online and citizens will be allowed to take advantage of modern technologies that are already in use by the vast majority of the people in our State.

“It also saves money.

“The current unfunded mandate that is being addressed by this legislation costs New Jersey taxpayers and private citizens more than $80 million per year. That is $80 million annually from property taxpayers, including those facing the nightmare of foreclosure.

“The taxpayers and citizens of New Jersey can no longer afford this arrangement and thanks to technology, they don’t have to.

“In the case of foreclosures, every family going through that trauma is charged an average of $910 just for the legally required newspaper notices. That is unconscionable and in response to the advancing legislation the New Jersey Press Association proposes increasing those charges.

“As a result, required legal notices earned newspapers approximately $14 million for the 12-month period ending in October 2016. And these costs were borne by the 15,764 financially distressed people who had just suffered a foreclosure of their home in that time period. This is simply unacceptable.

“Today, there are more than 65,000 foreclosures currently pending in New Jersey. That’s $59 million in potential revenue going to private media outlets that can instead be saved by citizens experiencing a foreclosure. Giving them a choice to post online at no cost helps them prevent losing what little equity they may have left or sinking them further into debt.

“For government entities, hundreds of millions of dollars of future resources to be spent on required legal notices could now be made available for public schools and other municipal and county services rather than on an outmoded method which has been supplanted for the majority of New Jerseyans by the Internet.

“The NJ Press Association has acknowledged the inescapable truth – newspapers have a vested interest in seeing this reform movement fail, and it is why they are making baseless charges to support taxing homeowners and bilking those subject to foreclosure unnecessarily.

“For years newspapers have enjoyed a statutorily-protected monopoly on the publication of a vast array of legal notices. Monopolies are always bad for our economy and, in this case, awfully expensive for our citizens.

“The facts are clear: nearly 90 percent of New Jersey households have an internet connection and 100 percent of the state’s public libraries provide free internet access to their more than 43 million annual visitors. Only 22 percent of New Jerseyans buy a print newspaper. This reform will bring New Jersey government directly to the people, who primarily spend their time online accessing information – for free. According to a Pew Research Center study from this summer, 81 percent of adults get their news from online sources or through mobile devices.

“Contrary to the flailing assertions of the NJ Press Association, there will be no lack of transparency and no harm to the public as a result of this reform. These are merely scare tactics by their paid Trenton lobbyists designed to protect the interests of newspaper companies who argue for a free press, but are really arguing for a taxpayer funded subsidy in disguise. This bill, and their fight over it, unmasks their greed.  In fact, their true disinterest in transparency and the public’s access to information through a free press – not to mention their undeniable hypocrisy – are fully displayed by the fact that this op-ed was refused publication.  I was therefore left with no choice but to disseminate this opinion myself, which will no doubt be read by a vast majority of the population online.

“The truth is this reform legislation maintains the requirement for local governments to provide advance public notice for matters such as meetings, agendas, bid requests and contract awards, while also establishing the requirements for public websites to ensure ease of access for the public. Government entities and individuals would still be able to fulfill notice obligations, but what would no longer be mandatory is the requirement of publishing an exorbitantly expensive notice in a newspaper.

“Although the NJ Press Association insists that this reform bill will result in an overwhelming burden for municipal staff, they intentionally ignore the basic facts. Most importantly, they ignore the fact that this legislation is optional. If municipal clerks can’t manage to transfer the text of a legal notice and post it on their website, they are not required to change their process. However, 532 of the 565 municipalities in New Jersey already maintain websites that provide public notices and information – adding the legal notices that are currently published in newspapers will not be a major leap.

“The New Jersey Association of Counties, the New Jersey State League of Municipalities, the New Jersey Conference of Mayors and the New Jersey School Boards Association all support this bill. The only group raising alarms on behalf of municipalities is the NJ Press Association.

“In 2004, when a nearly identical bill was proposed, Assemblyman Wisniewski, then-Assemblyman (now Senator) Gordon, and then-Assemblywoman (now Senator) Weinberg voted for it.  Yet now they have the chutzpah to turn their backs on the taxpayers they serve in order to further their misguided political agenda.

“We must update and modernize the public notification responsibilities of local government so that residents are fully informed and we eliminate the outrageous cost for the taxpayers of New Jersey. It will permit a greater number of citizens access to government. The NJ Press Association’s attempts to hang on to an antiquated, self-serving, money making statutory scheme is shameful. The Constitution guarantees a free press, not a government-subsidized one.

“That is why I support this bill, and all taxpayers who don’t have Trenton lobbyists arguing for government-ordered profit for them, should as well.”

Reader claims Ridgewood News is Trying to Hide Traffic Congestion

Reading_theridgewood_news_theridgewoodblog

Speaking of pedestrians being struck, have you noticed that whoever compiles the police blotter appearing in The Ridgewood News and the Suburban News no longer provides any information about motor vehicle accidents, including incidents involving pedestrians who were seriously injured after being struck by vehicles? Obviously, someone is trying to hide the fact that traffic congestion in Ridgewood is getting worse. I wonder who is behind this deception and why. And why does The Ridgewood News in particular fail to find this information out from other sources? Or is one hand washing the other.

Ridgewood News Misstates Tax implications of Full-Day Kindergarten

kindergarten-cop-comedy
October 4,2016

the staff of the Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, in the Ridgewood news article , “BOE presentation supports full-day kindergarten” , the Ridgewood News mistakenly implies that the Full-Day Kindergarten will cost taxpayers an additional $111 per year :

“While the program will cost $930,000, according to Best, it will only cost average homeowners $111 per year ($16 per $100,000 assessed value of their house).”.https://www.northjersey.com/news/education/presentation-supports-full-day-kindergarten-1.1669299″

While the the BOE website also states ,”What would be the tax impact on a “yes” vote for the second question on full-day Kindergarten? ○ If full-day Kindergarten is passed by the voters, the average Village assessed home of $693,904 would have taxes increased by approximately $111.” Also a bit unclear .

All indications are that the property tax increase on average Village assessed home of $693,904 is more likely to increase $111 per month ,not $111 per year.

Reader Predicts the Ridgewood News Will Fold

Bergen record Newspaper-vending-machine2

Don’t worry about it Boyd. The Ridgewood News is about to fold. The paper sucks. The editor is completely incompetent. Social media rules the news now. The election was driven by The Blog as well as facebook. All those stupid FB posts by Gail Price about her husband who was running for offce…..that helped kill his campaign. The FB posts by ditzy Hauck helped kill the campaigns of Price, Weitz, and Willet. The Blog provided the forum for people to reveal the truth. The Ridgewood News is basically becoming irrelevant now. We all rely on the internet to provide us with the news, the real news, the news as it happens.

And by the way, Boyd, thank you for letting us know that the shameless parking garage proponents are using their children as pawns.

The Ridgewood News opted not to publish a response from me, almost identical to the above letter, regarding Mr. Schimmel’s letter.

Reading_theridgewood_news_theridgewoodblog

Editor, The Ridgewood Blog:

On Friday, August 1, The Ridgewood News published a letter to the editor entitled:  “New driver frustrated by lack of village parking.”

Not surprisingly, the author of the aforementioned letter, Mr. James F. Schimmel, failed to mention that his family owns the commercial building located at 20-26 East Ridgewood Avenue, which is less than 150 feet away from the proposed Hudson Street parking garage.

Certainly, the value of said property would increase if the parking garage were built and rental fees for it could be increased as well.

Yet another letter writer who chose to omit key information from a letter to the editor about the proposed parking garage.  When will it end?
Boyd A. Loving

Note:  The Ridgewood News opted not to publish a response from me, almost identical to the above letter, regarding Mr. Schimmel’s letter.
