Dispite Ethics Board Anti Mayor Group Steps Up Attacks on Mayor and Ridgewood Police

Mayor Susan Knudsen

January 8, 2018
the etaff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, and the attacks on the police department continue ,from the Ridgewood blog , “The Local Finance Board offered the very same refutation that has been stated on this blog many times in the form of a dismissal .On the first complaint it was not their jurisdiction it was a civil service matter and on the second Delzio complaint ,there is no factual basis!”
https://theridgewoodblog.net/delzio-complaints-against-mayor-tossed-by-ethics-board/

The anti mayor group will not stop at anything looking to undermine the Ridgewood Police …..

“I don’t know who Don Delzio is nor part of baseball, softball or anything else. I have lived in village for over 25 years, pay app 50k in property/school taxes and read and watch the meeting minutes etc. i have no agenda other then getting the best value for my tax money. The mayors actions as related to voting on any item should that could effect the police hiring status , ie residency, degrees, etc is downright wrong with interests of her on the list. It is unfair to the taxpayers as well as the other well respected police officers. All should go back and check the school board meeting when the mayor argued hard for extra help for her children. That these same people can now be found ready to be a police officer is concerning. Why isn’t their some college requirement? Why would we want a residency requirement ? The village is not that complex that local knowledge overshadows. Makes no sense.
We should get the best of the best for such an important job that will cost the village millions.
Through any clear lens the hiring of three of the mayors children, who couldn’t complete RW schools in a normal curriculum, and who had the Mayor argue for required residency has to be looked at as morally and perhaps crimally wrong.
RW has to start pushing back hard”

Ridgewood : SALT Deduction to Charitable Contributions

1040taxirs_010415getty

January 8,2017

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, could New Jersey pull off the transfer of SALT deductions into Charitable Contributions ? We guess it depends on how you define  Charitable Contributions.

So we referred to IRS Publication 526 Cat. No. 15050A  Charitable Contributions, https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p526.pdf

The IRS defines Charitable Contributions :

Types of Qualified Organizations Generally, only the following types of organizations can be qualified organizations. 1. A community chest, corporation, trust, fund, or foundation organized or created in or under the laws of the United States, any state, the District of Columbia, or any possession of the United States (including Puerto Rico). It must, however, be organized and operated only for charitable, religious, scientific, literary, or educational purposes, or for the prevention of cruelty to children or animals. Certain organizations that foster national or international amateur sports competition also qualify.

2. War veterans’ organizations, including posts, auxiliaries, trusts, or foundations, organized in the United States or any of its possessions (including Puerto Rico).

3. Domestic fraternal societies, orders, and associations operating under the lodge system. (Your contribution to this type of organization is deductible only if it is to be used solely for charitable, religious, scientific, literary, or educational purposes, or for the prevention of cruelty to children or animals.)

4. Certain nonprofit cemetery companies or corporations. (Your contribution to this type of organization isn’t deductible if it can be used for the care of a specific lot or mausoleum crypt.)

Examples of Charitable Contributions—A Quick Check Use the following lists for a quick check of whether you can deduct a contribution. See the rest of this publication for more information and additional rules and limits that may apply. Deductible As Charitable Contributions Not Deductible As Charitable Contributions Money or property you give to: Money or property you give to: Churches, synagogues, temples, mosques, and other religious organizations Federal, state, and local governments, if your contribution is solely for public purposes (for example, a gift to reduce the public debt or maintain a public park) Nonprofit schools and hospitals The Salvation Army, American Red Cross, CARE, Goodwill Industries, United Way, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, etc. War veterans’ groups
Expenses paid for a student living with you, sponsored by a qualified organization

Out of pocket expenses when you serve a qualified organization as a volunteer Civic leagues, social and sports clubs, labor unions, and chambers of commerce Foreign organizations (except certain Canadian, Israeli, and Mexican charities) Groups that are run for personal profit Groups whose purpose is to lobby for law changes Homeowners’ associations Individuals Political groups or candidates for public office
Cost of raffle, bingo, or lottery tickets
Dues, fees, or bills paid to country clubs, lodges, fraternal orders, or similar groups
Tuition
Value of your time or services
Value of blood given to a blood bank Table 1.

Page 2 Publication 526 (2016)

This is where is gets interesting:

5. The United States or any state, the District of Columbia, a U.S. possession (including Puerto Rico), a political subdivision of a state or U.S. possession, or an Indian tribal government or any of its subdivisions that perform substantial government functions. (Your contribution to this type of organization is deductible only if it is to be used solely for public purposes.)

Example 1. You contribute cash to your city’s police department to be used as a reward for information about a crime. The city police department is a qualified organization, and your contribution is for a public purpose. You can deduct your contribution.

Example 2. You make a voluntary contribution to the social security trust fund, not earmarked for a specific account. Because the trust fund is part of the U.S. government, you contributed to a qualified organization. You can deduct your contribution. Examples. The following list gives some examples of qualified organizations. Churches, a convention or association of churches, temples, synagogues, mosques, and other religious organizations. Most nonprofit charitable organizations such as the American Red Cross and the United Way. Most nonprofit educational organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, colleges, and museums. This also includes nonprofit daycare centers that provide childcare to the general public if substantially all the childcare is provided to enable parents and guardians to be gainfully employed. However, if your contribution is a substitute for tuition or other enrollment fee, it isn’t deductible as a charitable contribution, as explained later under Contributions You Can’t Deduct. Nonprofit hospitals and medical research organizations. Utility company emergency energy programs, if the utility company is an agent for a charitable organization that assists individuals with emergency energy needs. Nonprofit volunteer fire companies. Nonprofit organizations that develop and maintain public parks and recreation facilities. Civil defense organizations.

Be it Trump Anxiety Syndrome, Impeachment Fantasy Syndrome or Trump Derangement Syndrome, the country is in the throes of a major epidemic, with no known cure and some pretty scary symptoms.

According to Justin Raimondo is the editorial director of Antiwar.com ,Trump Derangement Syndrome being the worst of the bunch and the most serious .TDS victims routinely compare Trump to Hitler: Time magazine ran an opinion piece that asked “Just how similar is Donald Trump to Hitler?” The answer: “The comparison between Hitler and Trump is so poignant” because “both men represent their personal character as the antidote to all social and political problems.”

Raimondo goes on , “The mid-level stages of TDS have a profound effect on the victim’s vocabulary: Sufferers speak a distinctive language consisting solely of hyperbole.”

“As TDS progresses, the afflicted lose the ability to distinguish fantasy from reality. Despite Trump’s expressed desire to “work something out” for the so-called Dreamers – those brought here as very young children – Trump’s critics continue to harp on this issue. Immigration advocate Frank Sharry, executive director of America’s Voice, who has a very bad case of TDS, inadvertently revealed this mind set when he said: “Before anyone falls into the trap of believing that Trump is ‘softening’ on immigration, they should remember that we’ve seen this movie before.”

Anti-Mayor Groups Steps Up Attacks on Ridgewood Police Department

Village Council Meeting

…”The last gasp of those losing the argument is saying the conversation needs to stop “in defense of the institution.” See, for example, all those worried about “the institution” of the FBI that are railing against the President’s criticisms. I guess this issue is making Dear Leader nervous since her hit squad of cyber bully lackeys can’t shout it down. The worst political scandals are ones that ring true. #SelfServing seems to have hit that mark. For what it’s worth, you’re right: John Ward couldn’t get his son on the force. That takes being Mayor. After all, both of the recent mayors – political animals these pages full-throatedly support – have made that happen for their children. Instead of refuting the argument your point about Ward actually proves it.”

Ridgewood NJ, Wrong this is a direct attack on the Ridgewood Police Department , its union members and  the Civil Service system . You are claiming that the Civil Service system is a fraud, that the Ridgewood  Police department has hired incompetent officers  and  that that the town is not being adequately protected .

This effort by Don Delzio , former FAC members , and supporters of the 3 amigos is a vicious attempt to undermine police authority and indirectly casts dispersions on the entire police department.

As for the John Ward argument this one is one you , https://www.northjersey.com/story/news/bergen/ridgewood/2016/12/11/ex-ridgewood-officer-faces-dwi-and-other-charges-sussex-county/95227000/

Reader says Sad but true I just watched the meeting from Nov 2015. What a farce.

Habernickel HealthBarn USA protest

Sad but true I just watched the meeting from Nov 2015. What a farce.
Apparently this business had a start date set by the village before the village took any of the proper steps to place it at habernickle. except for the change of use which was done behind everyone’s back
Then the neighbors came to the meeting ( nov 2015) with NO time to prepare. 20-24 concerned tax payers spoke up and because of their intelligence and education in the matter ( that they got within 24 hours of their own personal research ) the town had to follow proper guidelines and the business WAS not allowed to open as scheduled. Fishy!! BuT no loss to the business the town let them use the stable!!! Nice favor Roberta! I wonder if she paid rent?
Whatever, the bottom line is the council had NO intention of following proper protocol of a green acre public park until it was pointed out to them by residents. They still didn’t want to but they had no choice since the state was involved. We still are NOT sure how it all happened behind closed doors but I will tell you aside from the garage meeting this was one of the best meetings to watch…shows how the public was harreassed and completely disregarded by Paul, Gwen,Albert and Roberta Sad but true!
Actually I think Roberta Sonenfeld told a neighbor that NO dogs were allowed in Habernickle YET they are…crazy she didn’t even know her own rules!! But let’s throw a business in there!!

Reader says If the lease was written in favor of the business without the tax payers rights being considered it is time for Village Manager to make the proper adjustments

Roberta Sonenfeld

file photo by Boyd Loving

Bottom line is if this business was placed in a green acres park by past council and VM without following the proper procedures it is time for present council and VM to make the proper adjustments to the lease
If the lease was written in favor of the business without the tax payers rights being considered it is time for VM to make the proper adjustments
The fact that a business was placed in a residental neighborhood WITHOUT a trial period is absurd!! And the fact that it has been there for 21/2 years and the council and VM get endless complaints about the neighbors quality of life AND these have been ignored needs to be looked into too!

Shoveling Snow: Winter Chore or Health Hazard?

Snow Blizzard of 2016 Ridgewood CBD

January 6,2017

by George Becker, M.D., Director, Emergency Department, The Valley Hospital

Ridgewood NJ, Believe it or not, winter has officially begun! And, although there has been a lack of significant snowfall and cold temperatures in our area, we should still be prepared for the possibility of more seasonable weather.

Typical winters in the Northeast are beautiful, especially after a fresh snowfall. However, as many of us know, the arrival of snow means that it is time to dust off our shovels and get to digging! We understand that shoveling snow is our winter norm, but did you know that shoveling snow can actually pose a serious cardiac health risk to some of us?

In fact, although most people are not in danger from shoveling, the American Heart Association (AHA) still shares useful tips for anyone shoveling snow in the winter. To begin with, the AHA recommends that those who don’t exercise on a regular basis, those that have a medical condition, or those that are middle age or older consult with a doctor before shoveling.

The AHA also has the following general tips for staying safe while shoveling:
Take frequent rest breaks during shoveling.
Don’t eat a heavy meal prior or soon after shoveling.
Use a small shovel or consider a snow thrower.
Don’t drink alcoholic beverages before or immediately after shoveling.
Be aware of the dangers of hypothermia.
Learn the heart attack warning signs and listen to your body.
Some signs that you might be having a heart attack are pain in the chest, arm(s), back, neck, jaw or stomach. You might also break out in a cold sweat, feel short of breath, nauseated, lightheaded, or uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness in the center of your chest.

If you are concerned that you may be having a heart attack, you should not hesitate about seeking medical treatment—every minute is crucial when experiencing a heart attack. Call 911 immediately or head directly to the closest emergency room.

Our Emergency Department, located at 223 N. Van Dien Avenue in Ridgewood, NJ is open 24/7, 365 days a year and is staffed with physicians who are board certified in emergency medicine.

Gottheimer and Murphy Throw New Jersey Tax Hail Mary

Josh Gottheimer

January 6,2017

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Fair Lawn NJ , Apparently the “Tax the Rich” philosophy of New Jersey lawmakers only applies to when Trenton taxes the rich and not anyone else . The “Taxing the Rich” mantra has driven the state to fiscal suicide and has become a euphemism for taxing everyone on everything .

Today, in a desperate last ditch attempt to prop up Trenton, Congressman Josh Gottheimer and Governor-elect Phil Murphy have joined together to offer a new Tax Plan for New Jersey. Murphy and Gottheimer’s “Hail Mary” Tax Bill looks to restore State and Local Tax (SALT) Deduction by providing a tax deduction for taxpayers who make charitable contributions to their state or other local governments.

The two will be joined by Congressman Bill Pascrell and the mayors of Fair Lawn, Paramus and Park Ridge who all expressed support for the plan and their eagerness to implement it, with state support, in their communities. The Tax Hike Bill took a two-by-four to the State of New Jersey, gutting the State and Local Deduction (SALT), sharply limiting New Jersey’s property tax deductions, and imposing a massive Tax Hike on Jersey families and businesses. The Tax Hike Bill was largely paid for on the backs of New Jersey taxpayers and, according to experts, will bring property values down by as much as twenty percent and send businesses and jobs to other states.

Plan restores the value of the State and Local Tax (SALT) Deduction by providing a tax deduction for taxpayers who make charitable contributions to their state or other local governments. States and local governments can establish or support funds that pay for local services, including schools, law enforcement, and infrastructure. Taxpayers can make “voluntary contributions” to these funds, for which they will receive an offsetting tax credit. The contributions will be deductible for federal tax purposes under existing law, even for those who pay the alternative minimum tax. This structure effectively restores the benefit of the lost state and local tax deduction to the extent of the contributions for most taxpayers who itemize.

The plan also does not to restore any level of fiscal sanity to the state on New Jersey .

Attacks on Mayors Sons Erode Confidence in Ridgewood Police Department

Ridgewood Police Mt Carmel2

file photo by Boyd Loving

January 6, 2018

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, continued attacks on the mayors sons has begun to erode confidence in the ability of the police department to do its job. It ‘s only a matter of time before attorneys begin to argue that discrepancies in the police hiring process force the hiring of unqualified officers .

The attacks led by Don Delzio , and his cadre of pro garagzilla , pro RBSA turf field at Schedler and pro over-development of Ridgewood on the mayor have had the net effect of degrading the entire Ridgewood police force .

The fact is Ridgewood is a civil service police department like it or not you have to pass a test and a physical test and a psyche exam not matter who mommy or daddy is. If you look back 6 or7 years ago John Ward was the chief in Ridgewood and he couldn’t get his second son on the job. If the boss cant get his own son hired it doesn’t say much for nepotism. There is also the rule of 3 the hiring authority has to pick from the top 3 candidates if you are not there you have to wait.

Mayor Knudsen’s husband is a police officer. It is very common for children in professions of this nature to follow in their parents foot steps. My brother was career army. All his children considered military service. My two nephews are NYC Firemen. Their grandfather was a big wig official in The NYC Fire Department. The tests for Fire and Police are rigorous and we do hire Ridgewood residents first and foremost and as far as police It is a civil service appointment and the guidelines are strictly enforced.

Ridgewood is civil service and village council has no control over hiring. New Jersey Civil Service dictates all hiring procedures. Don and his friends if they are so interested should apply below:

Applications are available for The New Jersey Civil Service Commission Law Enforcement Examination. The Ridgewood Police Department uses the eligibility list provided by the State to hire candidates. The test is given every three years.

1. Applicants must be citizens of the United States as of August 31, 2016.

2. Applicants must meet the residency requirements of the appointing jurisdiction as of August 31, 2016 and may be required to maintain continuous residency in that jurisdiction up to and including the date of appointment.

3. Applicants must be high school or vocational high school graduates, or possess an approved High School Equivalency Certificate by August 31, 2016.

4. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age as of August 31, 2016. Applicants for Municipal Police Officer and its bilingual variant positions cannot be over 35 years of age (one is considered over 35 on the day of his/her 35th birthday) as of August 31, 2016, unless they meet the exceptions in “Maximum hiring age requirement for Municipal Police Officer” as indicated on the Fact Sheet. NOTE: The age 35 maximum hiring requirement applies only to Municipal Police Officer and its bilingual variants.

5. Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

6. Appointees may be required to pass thorough medical and drug screening, and psychological/psychiatric examinations. Failure of any of these is cause for removal from that title area.

7. Appointees will be required to successfully complete a training program mandated by the NJ Police Training Commission. This training must be completed prior to enrollment in the Police and Fire Retirement System.

8. After you complete and submit your online application, you will receive a confirmation page which includes a link and access code to the Candidate Preparation Guide. Please print your confirmation page prior to going to the link.

An abbreviated application is used for this title. Information regarding education, experience, licenses/certifications, training or internships is not collected.

The Ridgewood Police Department provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetics. In addition to federal law requirements, The Ridgewood Police Department complies with applicable state and local laws governing nondiscrimination in employment New Jeesey. This policy applies to all terms and conditions of employment, including recruiting, hiring, placement, promotion, termination, layoff, recall, transfer, leaves of absence, compensation and training.

Reader asks So why doesn’t the council do a true economic evaluation (and read the Green Acres law) and give the residents a true perspective?

Green Acres theridgewoodblog.net

Isn’t it time to say “yes some people LOVE Health Barn” but how much is it costing the Village of Ridgewood? As has been pointed out, their activities spread over much of the property rent free while preventing residents from having access to “Their park”. They take many more than their assigned parking spots, for free. They even serve alcohol on Village property! Has anyone checked into the insurance they need? Or is she “self insured” by Ridgewood? A drinker gets into an accident? Ridgewood has the deep pockets and it is OUR property on which the drinking occurred. I’m willing to bet that she has not told her insurance company that she allows alcohol to be served there. She certainly doesn’t want her basic policy (if she has one) to be raised to cover that. Why should she? So far Ridgewood has provided immediate free response to all her requests. Susan, as much as you love them, you have said their costs to the village should be counted in. So why doesn’t the council do a true economic evaluation (and read the Green Acres law) and give the residents a true perspective? So far the only “Green” in this whole boondoggle seems to be her bank account! Ridgewood, instead, apparently is happy to allow her freedom, at no additional cost, to do anything she wants. That leads to red ink for us. You can’t keep avoiding reality. Villagers will not shut up until some honest answers are presented by the Council. We’ve been asking for several years; how long are you going to continue to not acknowledge we have a problem? And if you claim there is no problem, please give us honest answers that prove it!

Reader says Councilmen Voigt Misled Voters to get Elected

Jeff Voigt Ridgewood

Let’s look at what Jeff Voigt run his campaign on. He misled us with all his fancy signs & quotes. What a liar….. people voted for him & what he told us be wanted to do for the Village. Such a big disappointment for the residents & for the residents who thought he shared the same views.
