Ban on Plastic and Paper Bags at all Grocery Stores Goes into Effect May 4, 2022

Ridgewood NJ, effective May 4, 2022, there will be a ban on plastic and paper bags at all grocery stores. Styrofoam clamshells, usually given out by restaurants and eateries, will also be banned.  This is a NJ State Law, so please remember to bring your own reusable bags to grocery stores.

Village of Ridgewood New Tree Ordinance Goes Into Effect May 3rd

UPDATE: Bear Sighting in Ho-Ho-Kus

Ridgewood Police: A black bear has been spotted on the east side of town this morning. Bears live in our area and will leave the woods in search of food. If seen, make yourself known with loud noises and do not corner it /make sure it has an escape route. Black bear attacks are very rare but if you see one acting aggressively, give us a call.

Ho-Ho-Kus NJ, according to the Ho-Ho-Kus Police yesterday at 532pm , a bear was still in the area, now seen on Racetrack Road. NJ Division of Fish & Wildlife has been contacted and provided same advice.
Do not approach. Leave it alone. Keep kids and pets out of the area. Bring any bird feeders inside.

Ridgewood NJ, getting a pulse on the community’s interest in and support for K-12 alternative schedules is a critical element of this important initiative, and to gather feedback from stakeholders, K12 Insight, a leading customer engagement solution for schools, will be distributing parent/community, student, and staff surveys in the next week or so. Surveys will be emailed directly to parents, 6-12 students, and staff members. For community members, a link to the survey will be published on the homepage of the website under District News, and the link will be emailed to our RPS eNews mailing list.

Archdiocese of Newark to Celebrate 500 Years of Christianity in the Philippines

Oxford University Hosts Bespoke Course for Holy Angels’ Scholars

Several intellectually curious scholars from the Academy of the Holy Angels just ventured across the Atlantic, and immersed themselves in a bespoke critical thinking course at Oxford University’s Pembroke College. While tailor-made classes are usually reserved for college students, AHA English Department Chair Nancy Schneberger developed this challenging course especially for the young women from Holy Angels. The curriculum she prepared incorporates growth mindset concepts and links into the Academy’s philosophy of transforming individuals through education.

Ridgewood High School team Invented the Solar Aqua Tech (SAT) Water Bottle : An Invention Journey

Ridgewood NJ, the American Chemical Society’s Journal of Chemical Education recently published “Invention as a Complement to High School Chemistry,” which documents the step-by-step journey of the Ridgewood High School team that invented the Solar Aqua Tech (SAT) water bottle, a self-sanitizing and sustainable bottle designed to address two worldwide problems: satisfying the need for safe drinking water and reducing plastic waste. Co-authored by the entire SAT team and mentors, “the intent of the article was to provide SAT students with a permanent record of their extraordinary accomplishments and to share our invention education experience with other educators. Ridgewood NJ, the annual Friends of Music (FOM) Concert was live at George Washington Middle School once again! Faculty members joined local professionals to put on a fantastic performance including everything from musical theater to opera to jazz to rock. Winners of the FOM Third Annual Song-Writing Competition were announced and had their compositions performed by professional musicians. Competition entries may be of any length and style, and they can be scored for any combination of instruments and/or voices. Four professional musicians/computers judged the entries.
