Ridgewood NJ, In New Jersey, anyone under 17 years of age that rides a bicycle or is a passenger on a bicycle, or is towed as a passenger by a bicycle must wear a safety helmet. … All helmets must be properly fastened and fitted.
Looks like many young people not wearing helmets , the Ridgewood Police should ticket every single child and every parent for encouraging law breaking.

I see their social media posts. They are obsessed. They think I am one of them. I’m not. I really like them as people, but the obsession with Trump has pushed me to limit at times. Remember Rudy Guiliani and his 2 terms as Mayor. It’s incredible that he got elected when everyone in NYC told their friends they voted for Dinkins/Messinger. Obviously not. People tell friends and pollsters lies. What they do behind the curtain is between them and their bank account.”

Some, who are merely down on their luck, can be helped but the untrained should never take in anyone with a true mental condition. This man obviously has a mental problem. The Police can keep taking him to Bergen Pines, but he can’t be kept there unless he agrees to treatment. One of the “Defund the Police” suggestions is to keep a specially trained social worker on staff who can be called to go with a police officer to try to defuse this situation. Most officers, however, have been trained to deal with this themselves and, in Ridgewood at least, that would probably be a duplication of services.”

“As several posters said, “We’ve offered help. He doesn’t want it.” It is against the law to commit anyone involuntarily unless he/she is a danger to him/herself or to others. Some people are so disturbed that they just want to be left alone. He’s not standing in the street begging, is he? When it gets hotter, or colder, he may decide he can use some help and will accept it then. It is also against the law to publicly urinate or defecate. We could legally have him picked up, and then what? The United States has lots of agencies designed to help people such as this. But they have to be willing to take the help. There used to be a drop in center, run privately by donations, to help mentally disturbed people with no questions asked in Hackensack. They lost their lease–but they couldn’t have helped this man. Homeless shelters will take him for a month unless he is an addict or is constantly drunk. There are actually some small shelters for those people. He is probably a result of NJ choosing to close psychiatric hospitals and throw their residents onto the public for assistance. I well know that I am not offering any solution to his presence. In reality, with the law the way it is, there is no solution. He most likely was living on the streets in another community and was literally picked up and dumped here. Someone mentioned that the “Black Lives Matter” group could take a real Black and, with much constant effort and concern be able to help him understand that he needs help and find help for him. That would certainly be a more fruitful use of their time than blocking streets and traffic and expecting everyone else in the world “to see it their way.” But, this group seems to be interested in making noise and proving that their “rights” can do away with others rights as they –think, not know, as they assume–that they are “educated” “with it” etc. What was the quote about nothing is achieved if it is only sought “through sound and fury”? That does seem to be all that they are capable of doing. They are young, yes, and the young always know what is best for the world until they are forced to quit living “in the world as they want it” and accept “the world that really exists today”. “

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Police took one (1) individual into custody on Sunday afternoon, 07/26, in connection with an incident involving a “flash mob” group of bicyclists making their way through the Village’s central business district. The bicyclists were initially observed disrupting traffic on Lincoln Avenue in Hawthorne. They then made their way through a residential neighborhood of Glen Rock before heading into Ridgewood on South Broad Street. No police officers were injured in the incident. The remaining cyclists scattered after the arrest was made. A police supervisor reported that the individual taken into custody was likely a minor. He was transported to Ridgewood Police headquarters for processing. Police at the scene did not reveal what charges would be pressed. Dozens of civilians witnessed the the incident unfold and the subsequent arrest.

Ridgewood NJ, in the latest E-Notice from the Village Manager Heather Mailander said that a small number of young people in Ridgewood recently tested positive for COVID-19. The close contacts of these individuals will be notified to allow for self-quarantine and symptom monitoring for fourteen days.

Ridgewood NJ, according to Rasmussen Reports opposition is growing to efforts by the political left to defund the police, with most Americans convinced that such a move will lead to more violent crime.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 66% of American Adults now oppose reducing the police budget in the community where they live to channel that money into more social services. That’s up from 59% in early June when we first asked this question. Just 23% favor defunding the cops where they live, down from 27% in the previous survey. Eleven percent (11%) are undecided. Ridgewood NJ, a new Cato national survey finds that self‐censorship is on the rise in the United States. Nearly two-thirds—62%—of Americans say the political climate these days prevents them from saying things they believe because others might find them offensive. The share of Americans who self‐censor has risen several points since 2017 when 58% of Americans agreed with this statement.
Clearly we have seen this in action even on a local level in Ridgewood. Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Police report that on July 20, 2020, a North Pleasant Avenue resident responded to Ridgewood Police headquarters to report harassment. The victim reported an unknown actor posted a listing on Craigslist without authorization causing alarm and annoyance. The victim also reported an unknown actor was attempting to gain access to her Instagram account without authorization. The Ridgewood Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.
All actors are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Ridgewood NJ, Senator Michael Testa today challenged the Governor to do better after a press event Thursday announcing Murphy’s program for small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As usual, this over-hyped announcement was polished up with a fancy title and livestreamed on the Governor’s YouTube channel. Despite the Wall Street-style branding, the new program fails more small businesses than it helps,” said Testa (R-1). “Murphy can do better. Before the first application arrives, he should expand the program so it can help desperate mom-and-pop businesses in every corner of the state.

Ridgewood NJ, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Ben Carson today announced the Department will ultimately terminate the Obama Administration’s Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) regulation issued in 2015, which proved to be complicated, costly, and ineffective— so much so that Secretary Carson essentially removed its burden on communities by suspending the regulation’s 92 question grading tool in January 2018.
