Ridgewood Water Customers its 2021 and Stage II Restrictions are Still in Effect

Ridgewood NJ, as the weather gets warmer it is important to remember that Stage II restrictions (2 days per week irrigation) were imposed in June 2016 and are still in effect in Glen Rock, Midland Park, Ridgewood and Wyckoff.  Without these restrictions, the use of drinking water for irrigation will continue increasing toward levels that are unsustainable regardless of drought conditions.   To reverse this trend, an ordinance was approved by the Village Council on April 12, 2017 to amend the provisions governing Watering and Water Emergencies in the Village of Ridgewood Code.  Changes include:

Alert Resident Tip leads to Arrest 5 Newark Men by Glen Rock Police

Bergen Towns Follow Different Paths on Legalizing Marijuana

Ridgewood NJ, New Jersey voters overwhelmingly supported legalizing marijuana on the November ballot. But many municipalities in the state are banning dispensaries, pot farms and manufacturing, and taking a “not in my back yard” approach  to legalized marijuana sales.

Heavy Duty Wrecker Able to quickly Right the Vehicle Involved in Rollover Crash in Glen Rock

Glen Rock NJ, Three (3) non-life threatening injuries were reported in connection with a Monday morning, 04/19, single vehicle rollover crash at the intersection of Elm Avenue and Harristown Road, Glen Rock. A heavy duty wrecker was able to quickly right the vehicle involved (a single axle box truck), which appeared to have sustained only minor damage. At least one (1) victim required ambulance transportation; he was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center via a Glen Rock BLS ambulance. Glen Rock Police and Glen Rock Fire Department also responded to the incident, as did an ambulance from the local hospital consortium. Fair Lawn Police assisted by providing incident traffic control.

Glen Rock NJ, from the Glen Rock Police Department , according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2019 distracted driving crashes killed 3,142 people in the U.S., an average of 9 deaths per day. That number was up 10 percent from the year before (2,839 deaths in 2018). In New Jersey, 137 people died in 2019 as a result of distracted driving.
Distracted driving remains a growing traffic safety problem according to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety’s 2019 Traffic Safety Culture Index. The survey found most drivers (96 percent) believe typing or reading on a hand-held cellphone while driving to be very or extremely dangerous, but 39 percent admit to reading and 29 percent admit to typing on a smartphone at least once while behind the wheel within the last month.

Glen Rock Police Dispel Rumors of a Hate Crime Committed Against Grand Nails

Glen Rock NJ, the Glen Rock Police are aware of a rumor on social media that there was a hate crime committed against Grand Nails located at 934 Prospect St in Glen Rock. On the morning of April 1, 2021, a neighboring business reported the Grand Nails sign was damaged. A property damage report was taken and the owners of Grand Nails were spoken to. The damage to the sign appeared to be consistent with damage from a large truck. The inside frame is bent and twisted and there is no other damage to the business nor is there any damage to nearby Asian businesses. At the time of the report, no claim of al this being a hate crime was reported to police by the reporting party nor the business owners. This was treated as a simple accidental property damage report.

Glen Rock Library has been closed until further notice

Glen Rock NJ, as of March 30th the Glen Rock Library has been closed .  On there Facebook page they issued the following statement:
“Out of an abundance of caution and care and concern for our community, the Glen Rock Library will be closed until further notice. Our blue return bins are closed as well. You may return your items to another BCCLS library or wait until we reopen. Your valid Glen Rock Library card can be used electronically or at another BCCLS library.”

Glen Rock Police Dispatched to Residence Over Dispute with a Contractor

Glen Rock NJ, on Saturday March 27th at 11:18 a.m. Glen Rock Police Patrols were dispatched to a residence on the 100 block of Rutland Road in response to an alleged altercation in progress. Upon arrival officers found that a 44-year-old Glen Rock man had become involved in a dispute with a contractor, a 41-year-old Linden man, over work done at the Glen Rock man’s home which was not to his satisfaction. The Glen Rock man subsequently refused to pay a remaining balance owned to the contractor. Both were advised that this was a civil matter, not a criminal matter, which would need to be resolved by filing a civil action at the Superior Court in Hackensack to resolve the issue of payment.

Glen Rock Police Investigate Passover Hit and Run

Glen Rock NJ, Saturday March 27th at 1:10 p.m.  Glen Rock Police Patrols were dispatched to a hit and run motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Maple Avenue and Waldron Avenue. Upon arrival a Prospect Park woman recounted that she was driving south on Maple Avenue when the vehicle in front of her stopped short to yield for a bicyclist. The woman was unable to stop in time and struck the vehicle. The vehicle. described as a grey VW Atlas, fled the scene south on Maple Avenue.

Glen Rock High School Student Charged in Bias Incident

Glen Rock NJ, On January 24th, 2021 Glen Rock Detectives began an investigation into racially biased comments being circulated to Glen Rock High School students via Instagram. Approximately one month later, while the investigation was ongoing, additional information was received from the administration of the Glen Rock High School that questionable comments had been entered in the chat section during a school Zoom session which appeared to target another student over their gender identity.

Golf Umbrella Confused for Shotgun Brings Glen Rock and Ridgewood Police Glen Rock High School

Glen Rock NJ, on Thursday March 18th at 7 AM,  Glen Rock Police patrols, supported by members of the Ridgewood Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 report of an adult male walking into the Glen Rock High School with a shotgun. Responding officers quickly determined that the subject was a member of the staff carrying a golf umbrella. There was no criminal intent, but rather a misperception by a concerned citizen who called 9-1-1 in good faith.
