UPDATE :Women’s Body Discovered in Leaf Pile Outside Ridgewood Home

Ridgewood NJ, a homeowner living in the 100 block of Union Street, Ridgewood, who stepped outside to put a garbage can on the curb late Wednesday night, 12/01, discovered a dead body in a large leaf pile in front of his home. Several Ridgewood Police units responded immediately along with Ridgewood’s Emergency Services to the homeowner’s 911 telephone call and confirmed the gruesome finding. A paramedic team from The Valley Hospital formally pronounced the individual dead on location. Ridgewood Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke, who was at the scene, said that the deceased was “known to the police department,” and that no foul play was suspected. Members of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Identification took photographs and inspected items found with the individual. Ridgewood Emergency Services personnel assisted with street closures and on-scene portable lighting.

After Short Police Chase Stolen Car from Ridgewood Recovered in Newark

Ridgewood NJ, in the early morning hours of Monday November 1, 2021 Ridgewood Police were dispatched to a Howard Road residence for a report of a vehicle theft in progress. Patrol converged on the area and Sgt. Kyle Finch located the vehicle near the Ho-Ho-Kus Border. The vehicle began to flee and a short pursuit ensued, which was terminated a brief time later for the safety of officers, criminals and other people driving on the roadway at the time. Other area departments aided during the incident, and a juvenile actor, believed to be involved, was located (on foot) by a Waldwick Police Unit. The stolen vehicle was located and recovered by Ridgewood Police Detectives in Newark, NJ. The matter is under investigation by the Ridgewood Police Detective Bureau.

The Vast Majority of the Stolen Vehicles in Ridgewood are stolen because the keys (or key fob) were Left Inside the Vehicle

Ridgewood NJ , according to the Ridgewood Police ,the Department has found that a vast majority of the stolen vehicles in our community have been stolen because the keys (or key fob) were left inside the vehicle at the time of the theft, and the vehicles have been left unlocked. The Ridgewood Police Department strongly encourages our community to lock your vehicles at night, to never leave your keys (or key fob) in an unattended vehicle, and to avoid leaving valuables in your vehicle at night.

The Ridgewood Police Department Reports an Increase in Motor Vehicle Collisions Involving Deer in the Roadway

Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Police Department has seen an increase in motor vehicle collisions involving deer in the roadway. This is an especially active time for deer in our area, which causes the animals to wander into roadways throughout the day. Please be vigilant when driving on roadways for animals that may come in, or close to, the roadway especially in areas near streams or wooded areas.

Knife Wielding Man Threatens Conductor at Glen Rock Boro Hall Station

Glen Rock NJ, a maskless adult male commuter train passenger displayed a knife and threatened a NJ Transit conductor who had asked him to put on a mask as the train entered Glen Rock Boro Hall Station, Glen Rock on Wednesday morning, 10/20. The suspect disembarked the train, fleeing the area on foot, and subsequently sought shelter nearby in the home of an acquaintance. An alert Glen Rock Police supervisor observed the individual enter the home and placed a radio call for back up. The home was quickly surrounded by Glen Rock Police and Ridgewood Police officers, who ensured the suspect remained in place until NJ Transit Police officers arrived. Two (2) NJ Transit Police officers placed the individual under arrest shortly after their arrival and transported him to an undisclosed location for processing.

Wyckoff Home of U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer Hit With Protests

Wyckoff NJ, several police departments from Bergen and Passaic Counties along with officers from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office assisted Wyckoff Police in the arrest of approximately 12 protestors at the Wyckoff home of U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer on Monday afternoon, 10/18. Those arrested were allegedly trespassing on private property owned by the Congressman and his spouse. No injuries were reported by any officers or protestors at the scene.

Ridgewood NJ, several Ridgewood police cars were observed rushing into the Hudson Street Parking Garage shortly before 10 PM on Wednesday night, and heading up the ramps to the top floor.  Bystanders looking on from the sidewalk in front of Mt. Carmel wondered if there was a serious crime in progress, or worse yet, a distraught person threatening a jump from somewhere on the top floor.

Heavy Rains and Flooding Bring Out Ridgewood Emergency Services Volunteers

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Office of Emergency Management reported that the Village of Ridgewood experienced severe flooding and multiple roads were impassable. Some homes have experienced flooding as a result of the volume of water.

Paladin Drones’ Launches “Knighthawk” First Responder Drone

Ridgewood NJ, the Knighthawk is a drone designed for emergency response personnel. It has a 10x optical zoom camera, a thermal camera, and 55 minutes of flight time. 911 operators can place a pin on a map to direct the drone to sites within seconds of a call being made. No special hardware needs to be installed in the city for the drones to process their surroundings. The FAA has strict rules around visual line of sight for drone operators, so the company behind the Knighthawk has to collect extensive data to get operating waivers, which it has done so far for the two cities it works with.

Ridgewood Fire Fighters Tackle Stubborn Early Morning Garbage Truck Fire

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood firefighters extinguished a stubborn garbage truck fire in the 0-100 block of Sherman Place, Ridgewood on Wednesday morning, 08/18. An investigation is underway by Ridgewood Police and Ridgewood Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Bureau to determine if a nearby property owner knowingly left highly flammable materials at the curb for pick up by sanitation workers. No injuries were reported in the incident.
