Clinton Avenue Pedestrian Safety Issues Scheduled for Upcoming Discussion By Ridgewood Village Council Members

Ridgewood NJ,  Village Council members will reportedly discuss the longstanding pedestrian safety issues on Clinton Avenue during their scheduled February 7th Work Session. The safety issues are related to school children walking in the street on their way to and from the nearby Ridge Elementary School. Currently, there are no public sidewalks on Clinton Avenue.

Car Jumps Curb in Central Business District in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, on January 26 some time around 8:00 am an elderly woman driver lost control of her car ,jumped a curb and hit a light pole on Chestnut Street in Ridgewood’s central business district. Ridgewood Police, Fire and Emergency Services as well as other Village employees rushed to the scene. We have no information as to the woman’s status . No pedestrians were hurt and the local cigar lounge remains fully intact .

It’s official: N.J. Police Licensure Act Takes Effect

Ridgewood NJ,  new state law went into effect this month requiring New Jersey’s approximately 40,500 police officers to hold valid, active licenses issued by the Police Training Commission (PTC) in order to serve as law enforcement officers.

Ridgewood Student Gun Turns Out to Be Toy Gun

Ridgewood NJ, according to Ridgewood Chief  of Police Forest R. Lyons, on January 31, 2024, the Ridgewood Police Department was made aware that a student at one of our schools was in possession of a toy gun. Our officers immediately ensured the toy was secured and there was no threat to any students or staff. Our department determined the miniature, plastic toy gun was not used to commit/attempt to commit a crime, was not an imitation firearm, and not of evidentiary value. No further police action was deemed necessary beyond the initial investigation.

Ridgewood Police Remind Motorist to Remove all Ice and Snow Before You Go

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Police  reminder to remove all ice and snow from your vehicle before driving, especially from the hood, windows and roof. It’s the law in New Jersey! Motorists who fail to do so face fines of $25 to $75 for each offense, regardless of whether the ice and snow is dislodged from the vehicle.

A String of Home Break ins Reported in Ridgewood and Neighboring Glen Rock

Ridgewood NJ, local residents claim there have been a string of break-ins in the Old Country Club section of Ridgewood in recent months. The latest were 2 burglaries on McKinley Place this past Friday evening around 6pm.

Ridgewood Police Officer Aids Glen Rock Police in the Apprehension of a Door Dash Porch Pirate

Glen Rock NJ, on January 2nd at 4:43 PMGlen Rock D/Sgt. James Calaski and P.O. Sarah Orsita investigated a Door Dash delivery driver who was involved in package thefts from the front steps of residences on Warren Place and Ashton Place on December 31, 2023. P.O. James Mc Gill, who took the initial report, was able to obtain a clear video image of the actor as well as the license plate number from his vehicle.

Ridgewood NJ, no one was injured and property damage was minimal when a towering tree toppled from the property of a single family home onto North Monroe Street, Ridgewood just after 12 noon on Wednesday, 01/10. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, Ridgewood Emergency Services, and Village of Ridgewood Shade Tree Division personnel responded to the incident.

Ridgewood NJ, a 4-door Honda Accord traveling at a high rate of speed careened off of Route 17 southbound in Ridgewood early Sunday morning, 01/07, and completely rolled over at least once before slamming into an Acura SUV parked at a gas station. The Honda’s driver was transported by ambulance to The Valley Hospital with injuries said to be non-life threatening. The Acura SUV parked at the Exxon gas station was also damaged in the incident; both vehicles were towed from the scene. Unconfirmed reports are that the victim may have fallen asleep while driving.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood firefighters quickly snuffed out a New Years Eve, 12/31. dumpster fire at 17 South Walnut Street, Ridgewood. A Ridgewood Police patrol officer had attempted to extinguish the blaze with a dry chemical fire extinguisher, but was unsuccessful at doing so. No injuries were reported in the incident, and damage appeared to have been confined to the dumpster’s contents.

Village of Ridgewood Adds a New Parking Enforcement Officer
