Paramus NJ, congratulations and best wishes to Paramus Police Sergeant Dean Avagnano on his retirement. Sgt. Avagnano who is mostly known for his for his career in the traffic division has also been a major participant in our community events. Always seen chaperoning our LEAD – Law Enforcement Against Drugs and Violence events and rescuing animals throughout his career. Over the years the Ridgewood blog has profiled Sgt. Avagnano during several animal rescues. Sgt. Avagnano has been a major part of our motor unit and has also installed hundreds of car seats for young parents in town. Thank you for your service Sgt. Avagnano .

Nutley NJ, The New Jersey State Police Missing Persons and Human Trafficking Unit and the Nutley Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance with locating Derek Estrella, 16, of Nutley, N.J.
Derek was reported missing on Friday, October 27, after not returning from his lunch period at school. He was last seen on surveillance video at the New York Public Library located at 455 5th Avenue, New York, NY, on October 27 at 5:11 pm with his mom and her sister.

Elderly Homeowner Rescued in Early Morning Fire in Paramus

Paramus NJ, an early Saturday afternoon, 11/04, structure fire in the 300 block of Willard Road began in a microwave oven, and extended to kitchen cabinets and the home’s roof before Paramus FD firefighters gained complete control of it. An elderly resident of the home was reportedly rescued by a neighbor as the structure filled with smoke. Paramus EMTs evaluated the evacuee on the front lawn of a nearby home; it is uncertain if he was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Oradell firefighters assisted Paramus Fire Department at the scene.

Ramapo Indian Hills School District Loses Director of Curriculum

Oakland NJ, The Ramapo Indian Hills Regional High School District has seen another departure in its administrative team. Elizabeth McDermond, the district’s director of curriculum, has been hired by the Mount Olive Township Board of Education to become the assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. Her annual salary for this role is reported to be $175,000.

The Case Breakers Believe Former Teamsters President Jimmy Hoffa’s Body May be Buried at the Site of the Old Milwaukee County Stadium

East Rutherford NJ, the Case Breakers, a nonprofit group of cold case crime investigators, have claimed that they believe they have located the burial site of former Teamsters President Jimmy Hoffa in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Their investigation was allegedly guided by a dying police sergeant’s handwritten instructions on an ace of spades playing card. According to their press release, they believe Hoffa’s body may be buried at the site of the old Milwaukee County Stadium, near the current Milwaukee Brewers stadium, American Family Field.

Imam Mahmoud Hamza and Rabbi Fine led a group of religious leaders and some local elected local officials from the Ridgewood Board of Education and the Village Council in a vigil and press conference bringing together Jewish and Muslim residents in a unified stance of peace and unity. The vigil was keep small and just about neighbors . Imam Mahmoud Hamza said ,”We hope that this message of peace and unity will reverberate in our community and we can be an example to others”
