Paid Snow Day at Ridgewood Village Hall, but Wait there is More

Ridgewood NJ, on Tuesday we reported that Village Hall employees did not have to report to work today due to inclement weather. We later discovered that the “regular joes” in many departments had to report to work on Tuesday and it was only the “white collar” workers in Village Hall that got the day off . The same people who we are told who were privileged during the covid pandemic. They stayed home for a long time while everybody else  had to come to work or rotate schedules.

Seaside Park NJ, another dead whale has been spotted off the coast of Seaside Park. Police say that the whale was seen about half-mile off the L Street beach. That makes at least 11 whales found dead off the New York and New Jersey coast since December.

Ridgewood NJ, PJM Interconnection energy grid study found the Mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. could run out of power in 7 years. In the report further highlighted below . Demand for electricity will out pace the ability to produce it . Old power generation plants ( thermal generation) are retiring at a faster rate than new plants of (intermittent and limited-duration resources ) renewable energy can replace.  Intermittent and limited-duration resources like solar cells and wind farms will take multi megawatts to replace and old school megawatt. Another words far more capacity needs to be created in renewables than exist in current generation , if we lose 40 GW of existing generation we will need 120 GW of renewables.

Street Signs that Are Just too Small in Ridgewood & Glen Rock

Glen Rock NJ, small road signs over intersections are not only annoying to motorists but can cause a problem. In Glen Rock a motorist driving from the post office along Glen avenue who stops at Rock road is confronted by a small sign above the intersection which is not easy to read because it is small “NO TURN ON Red 7A–6P  Mon —Sat.”  According to the FHWA it only suggests placing such a sign on crossbar near the signal. It clearly states that that this recommendation is just a guidance,not a requirement. This confusion can be eliminated by a much bigger sign placed on the right corner next to “DO NOT BLOCK” where motorists can read it.

Witch hunt in progress – Who asked the State of NJ to designate Schedler property in Ridgewood as “historic?”

Ridgewood NJ, Councilwoman Siobhan Winograd seems hell bent on finding out the name of the Village employee/official who allegedly “requested” that the State of NJ’s Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) designate the entire Schedler property as “historic.” The “historic” designation status requires SHPO’s approval of any plans the Village may have to develop/improve the property.

Roseland NJ, Governor Phil Murphy delivered his budget proposal for New Jersey’s 2024 fiscal year which begins July 1. The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) applauds the Governor for proposing a budget that includes no tax increases or new fees and allows the 2.5-percent corporation business tax (CBT) surcharge to sunset on Dec. 31. We also applaud the fiscally responsible measures to create a $10 billion surplus and put more than $2 billion towards debt defeasance. However, we are concerned about the tax revenue projections which don’t factor in a possible recession.

Mahwah NJ, the Mahwah Republican Club is holding a fundraiser on March 3rd at the Mahwah Elks Club at 630pm to raise money for our annual student scholarships. Over the last two years, we have awarded four winners. We hope to raise enough money this year for three scholarships. The scholarships are based on written essays and are judged on thought formation, organization, and proper grammatical structure. In addition to raising funds for the scholarship, the event will be used to promote leadership amongst our local students. All Mahwah student residents attending their senior year in high school are eligible. Please join us for a good cause and a fun night out.

Tree Service Truck Gets Tangled in Electric Wires in Cresskill

Cresskill NJ, on Sunday February 27th the Cresskill Fire Department and Cresskill Police Department  were dispatched to a tree crane that had gotten caught and entangled in electric overhead wires around 9:40 am in front of 78 Roosevelt Street. When firefighters arrived at the scene the crane had tipped back on its boom and the truck cab was approximately 25 feet off the ground in the air.
