Teaneck NJ, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the MTA hit the milestone, thanks to Brian Jones from Teaneck, New Jersey. Brian Jones from Teaneck became the billionth New York City subway rider in 2023, tapping into the 175 Street station at 10:54 a.m. on Tuesday, as announced by Gov. Kathy Hochul. This achievement was reached six weeks ahead of the previous year, which saw the subway system reaching a billion riders on December 27. Throughout 2023, subway ridership has consistently increased. In recognition of this milestone, Jones was awarded a $100 OMNY value card, an OMNY T-shirt, an OMNY button, and a city subway map glasses cleaner during his noteworthy journey.

Fair Lawn NJ, Thursday evening Bergen County NJ Transit rail service is subject to up to 30-minute delays due to an earlier pedestrian fatality near Broadway-Fairlawn. NJ TRANSIT police responded to an incident involving the No. 66 train on the Port Jervis Line. The train struck an individual between the Broadway station and Morlot Avenue shortly after 4:30 p.m. The train had originated from Middletown, NY, at 3:20 p.m. and was en route to Hoboken, scheduled to arrive at 5:13 p.m. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to the approximately 100 passengers and crew on board. In response to the incident, service was temporarily suspended in both directions between Ridgewood and Plauderville. NJ TRANSIT rail tickets and passes were being cross-honored by the agency’s buses and private carriers.

Fair Lawn NJ ,a New Jersey Transit train struck and killed a pedestrian in Fair Lawn on Thursday evening. According to a NJ Transit spokesperson , Bergen County Line train 1171 out of Hoboken hit the pedestrian just west of the Radburn Station in the borough at around 6:52 p.m.

Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT is still pursuing claims against the General Committee of Adjustment (GCA), the local union organization that orchestrated the illegal job action. A decision of the Federal Court last June found in favor of NJ TRANSIT and that the GCA violated the Railway Labor Act by instigating the “sick-out”. The Court’s order put in effect immediately following the job action remains in place and prohibits the local union from taking any such action in the future, including for this year’s Juneteenth holiday.

Cherry Hill NJ, NJ TRANSIT has unveiled a new state-of-the art solar panel bus shelter in Cherry Hill, the first of its kind for the agency. The latest generation shelter continues to advance NJ TRANSIT’s sustainability goals laid out in its 10-Year Strategic Plan. The solar panels on the roof of the shelter harness the power of the sun to recharge a battery which operates the shelter’s lights at night and adds a new customer convenience in USB charging ports. We were hoping for heat in the winter but I guess you can’t have everything .
