Readers defend AirBnb in Ridgewood

streetscape_theridgwoodblog

I have had many airbnb visitors, all very decent professionals, staying for various reasons, TI Pros working 1-2 or 3 month contracts, people that had construction going on because of a fire-damaged to their home and were sick of staying a hotel, CEO”s come in for 3 days , but mostly guests visiting family members for a few days coming to see newborns of there kids having kids from the UK.,Israel, Denmark, Japan.
I have never had a problem with anyone of these guests. And this has helped me out tremendously since I lost a love one that contributed to my loving home financially, a home I don’t wish to lose…..

So to the ignorant person that has threatened to call the IRS on your neighbor, you are a despicable neighbor that “ASSUMES” we don’t pay our taxes , with no proof what so ever !!!! So please call them and rear your ugly head out to all of us. Think of us when your having your $500 spa day and stuff your face with tartare. and getting your manicure and hair colored, god it’s been so long for me Maybe you should try getting a job so you wouldn’t have so much time on your hands to judge everyone around you. Make no mistake about, YOU ARE the person people talk about in town behind your back, and rightfully so you play the role so eloquently, ponder that the next time your gossiping, we all see right through those people, they are the black sheep in our community’s !!!!!!!

Unlike the bloviators here, I actually spent the time to do some research regarding my concerns about liability coverage and Air bnb provides coverage. I doubt the ban will stand and if it does, you’ll have neighbors spying on each other and calling the cops when a stranger parks in a driveway or goes into a house. Kind of echoes some activities from 80 odd years ago… maybe we’ll have to carry our “resident” papers too…

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood Nj, according to George Becker, M.D., Director, Emergency Department, The Valley Hospital  although most people are not in any danger from shoveling snow,(https://toyourhealth.valleyhealth.com/blogs/valleyblogs/january-2017/shoveling-snow-winter-chore-or-health-hazard) Doctor Becker tells us that the American Heart Association (AHA) still shares useful tips for anyone shoveling snow in the winter. To begin with, the AHA recommends that those who don’t exercise on a regular basis, those that have a medical condition, or those that are middle age or older consult with a doctor before shoveling.
The AHA also has the following general tips for staying safe while shoveling:

Take frequent rest breaks during shoveling.
Don’t eat a heavy meal prior or soon after shoveling.
Use a small shovel or consider a snow thrower.
Don’t drink alcoholic beverages before or immediately after shoveling.
Be aware of the dangers of hypothermia.
Learn the heart attack warning signs and listen to your body.

Some signs that you might be having a heart attack are pain in the chest, arm(s), back, neck, jaw or stomach. You might also break out in a cold sweat, feel short of breath, nauseated, lightheaded, or uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness in the center of your chest.

If you are concerned that you may be having a heart attack, Doctor Becker says you should not hesitate about seeking medical treatment—every minute is crucial when experiencing a heart attack. Call 911 immediately or head directly to the closest emergency room.

Valley Hospital Emergency Department, located at 223 N. Van Dien Avenue in Ridgewood, NJ is open 24/7, 365 days a year and is staffed with physicians who are board certified in emergency medicine

Ridgewood age-friendly group seeks options for seniors

Mark Krulish , Staff Writer, @Mark_KrulishPublished 12:35 p.m. ET Jan. 20, 2017 | Updated 12:38 p.m. ET Jan. 20, 2017

In coming years, there will be a rapid growth in the population aged 65 and over as the Baby Boomer generation heads into retirement.

While the national trend may not reflect the reality of every single municipality in the country, a group of Ridgewood residents is looking to make a difference in its own community, to make the village a better place for residents to grow old.

Reader says developers should be targeted for negative aspects of Build and Run

Projects_theridgewoodblog

Excellent but what is the next set of actions to ensure some real actions
Are taken before events and the Developers decend on Ridgewood ,Ho HoKus Glen Rock and other Bergen county communities.?

The developers should be targeted for negative aspects of Build and Run with the Cash tactics..what banks are financing these ruinous Multi family Neighborhood and School taxes blockbusters.Banks they to project community good citizens profiles but they are awash with cheap money for the Fed and lack of interest payments to the savers for a Decade now

“I implore our Senate President and Assembly Speaker to do everything in their power to move forward with bi-partisan legislation addressing this issue. The court rules on what is constitutional, not aggressively ruling what it thinks is best for the state. We cannot let the court legislate what is best for individual communities.”

Readers say NJ Supreme court shows without any doubt that the judiciary in New Jersey has arrogated to itself governmental powers that should have been committed exclusively to the legislative branch

Projects_theridgewoodblog

The recent NJ Supreme court case pinning untold thousands of units of affordable housing obligations on “recalcitrant” municipalities who fought against them in court shows without any doubt that the judiciary in New Jersey has arrogated to itself governmental powers that, if they could be legitimately be exercised at all, should have been committed exclusively to the legislative branch. Heaven help us, because whatever real differences that exist between New Jersey and the average banana republic state are becoming very difficult to find. The unfortunate exodus of decent citizens from New Jersey can only increase from here on out.

These judges are like gods. They can take decisions without much worry about people’s lives in the name of “common good”. How is it possible to not take residents’ concerns into consideration but just shove it to them?!?! HoHoKus may be asked to build close to 300 affordable units. How crazy is this? A tiny , nice place right next door to Ridgewood. How can 300 units fit in there. If HHK is asked for 300 how many will Ridgewood be asked for? It has to be over 1000. There are plans to build where Granny’s attic is and also to take away the lower parking lot by the train station. Add to this the looming Valley building by N Maple and you don’t have a village anymore. In a few years if nobody does something about this (residents are all asleep or occupied with Trump’s upcoming “disasters”) we won’t have a village anymore but a city called Ridgehokus.

Ridgewood Village Council continues to react to residents concerns and improve its parking allocation strategy.

Ridgewood Trainstation_theridgewoodblog

January 20,2017

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, Parking Update, the Village Council continues to react to residents concerns and improve its parking allocation strategy.

The Village Council has implemented a reallocation strategy, based on supply/demand, for various Village-owned parking lots throughout town to give a few extra spaces to CBD patrons. In response to commuter concerns, additional spaces were restored back to commuters in both the Hudson St and Prospect St lots – amended Ordinance 3572 takes effect 1/28.
Commuters continue to press for the return of the 12 hour meters , if you work in the city there is just no other way.
“I have commented many times The ridiculous loss of former 12 houred metered parking even for village residents/ only in cottage place was in place for years and the change to max 8 hours was protested and those protests ignored and that gave birth to the annual parking pass rip off.;the store owners were bitching about those more than 3 hours meter sitters for their crappy business plan. while their early arriving employers we sopping up street parking every day on arrival to their place of work”

Parking lot commuters buy food/ Drug store items Coffee and Wine and take out food before after a long day .We all win..we get value for our high taxes when we don’t have big brother down our necks .Bring back 12 hour metered o 12 hr Parkmobile parking for village residents( with Window Resident stickers). NOT ROCKET SCIENCE. too many employee only spots allocated to employee parking. many not VOR residents.”

UPDATE on environmental cleanup for the “Town Garage” Site in Ridgewood

Town Garage Ridgewood

UPDATE on environmental cleanup:

Janaury 20,2017

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Mayor Susan Knudsen provided an update on the “Town Garage ” site cleanup. The Ridgewood Village Council approved submission of a Brownfields Grant Application for the cleanup of contamination on and around the North Walnut Street municipal parking lot in the CBD. Brownfields are properties that may have hazardous substances, pollutants or contaminants present. EPA’s Brownfields Program provides grants and technical assistance to communities, states, tribes and others to assess, safely clean up and sustainably reuse these contaminated properties. Cleaning up and reinvesting in brownfields protects human health and the environment, reduces blight, and takes development pressures off greenspaces and working lands.

Countless hours went into preparing the grant application followed by meetings for review. We hope for a positive response! Thanks to all who helped with this effort…especially resident volunteers!
