Ridgewood NJ, Patrolman Andrew Van Dyke was sworn on on July 14th 2021 by Mayor Susan Knudsen during the Village council meeting while his mother Patricia and sister Victoria held the Bible. Officer Van Dyke graduated the Bergen County Police Academy in June and is currently in the police departments field training program.

Alert Ridgewood Patrol officer Spots Vehicle Suspected in Hit and Run Attack on Parking Signs

Ridgewood NJ, a Ridgewood Police patrol officer spotted an occupied, white KIA Rio Hatchback sought in connection with a Wednesday afternoon, 06/09, hit and run crash, parked on a residential street less than 1/2 mile from where its driver allegedly drove up onto a sidewalk, damaging several parking stanchions and parked vehicles before fleeing the scene. The KIA’s adult male driver, suspected of DUI, was subsequently taken into custody and transported to Ridgewood Police headquarters. The damaged KIA, with a Village of Ridgewood owned parking advisory sign still impaled in its front bumper, was impounded and removed from its parked location by a flatbed tow truck. No injuries were reported in connection with the hit and run crash.

Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Police Department is excited to unveil its first Pride themed patrol vehicle. The cruiser took to the street today, with two large rainbow stripes, flags and lettering on both sides of the Chevy Tahoe. During Pride Month, the car will serve as a symbol of the department’s year-round commitment to equality. The goal of this outreach project is to encourage positive relations with all residents, especially the LGBTQIA+ community.

Bus terminal’s planned move to Wilsey Square vetoed by Village Council

Ridgewood NJ, Village Council members Wednesday night resoundingly rejected a plan to relocate the Village’s bus terminal from Van Neste Square to Wilsey Square, citing the proposed elimination of 17 municipal parking spaces (at Wilsey Square) in conjunction with such a plan as their major concern.

Village of Ridgewood Garbage Truck Takes Out Balcony

Ridgewood NJ, a garbage truck owned and operated by the Village of Ridgewood struck a balcony in a garden apartment complex on Heights Road, Ridgewood on Friday morning, 04/09. No injuries were reported in the mishap and the truck was able to drive away on its own power. However, the balcony was severely damaged and deemed unusable. Firefighters from Ridgewood FD made the scene safe. A Village of Ridgewood construction code official was called to inspect for structural damage. Ridgewood Police also responded.

Ridgewood NJ, Law enforcement officers from the Ridgewood Police Department will be cracking down on distracted drivers during April as part of New Jersey’s UDrive. UText. UPay. enforcement campaign.
Beginning April 1 and running through the end of the month, the high visibility law enforcement initiative will target motorists who engage in dangerous distracted driving behaviors such as talking on hand-held cell phones and sending text messages while driving.

Golf Umbrella Confused for Shotgun Brings Glen Rock and Ridgewood Police Glen Rock High School

Glen Rock NJ, on Thursday March 18th at 7 AM,  Glen Rock Police patrols, supported by members of the Ridgewood Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 report of an adult male walking into the Glen Rock High School with a shotgun. Responding officers quickly determined that the subject was a member of the staff carrying a golf umbrella. There was no criminal intent, but rather a misperception by a concerned citizen who called 9-1-1 in good faith.
