Ridgewood NJ, a reminder from the Ridgewood Police Department , as of March 1st New Jersey has implemented a new “Move Over” law:
When approaching a pedestrian or a person on a bike, skateboard or scooter on the roadway, drivers must: Move over one lane when passing, if it safe to do so, or allow four feet of space between the car and the person being passed. If it is not safe or possible to move over one lane, drivers must slow to 25 MPH.

Ridgewood Police Department Investigate Suspicious fire on Sunday Evening off of Crest Road

Ridgewood NJ, members of the Bergen County Arson Squad assisted detectives and patrol officers of Ridgewood Police Department investigate an outdoor fire believed to have been intentionally set on Sunday evening, 02/20. The fire, in the 200 block of Crest Road, Ridgewood, was reported via 911 by a nearby resident. There were no known fire related injuries, and minimal damage was caused to a heavily wooded area. Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Identification personnel collected evidence at the scene.

Ice Shatters Windshield of Vehicle Traveling South Bound on Route 17 in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, On Saturday February 5th ,the Ridgewood Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident on route 17 south in the area of Starbucks. A Ford fusion was traveling southbound when a piece of ice dislodged from a vehicle that was traveling northbound and flew over the center divider striking the southbound vehicle shattering the windshield. Luckily there were no injuries but this could have been much worse. The unidentified white vehicle continued north without stopping.

Ridgewood Police Department Announces the Promotion of Kevin Mckeon to the rank of Sergeant

Kevin was officially sworn in at the Village council meeting on January 12th by mayor Susan Knudsen. Kevin’s wife Stephanie and his son Cole held the Bible while is daughter Emily looked on. We congratulate Sergeant Mckeon on his promotion.

In 2021 there were 26 Unlocked Cars Stolen in the Village of Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, according to the Ridgewood Police Department and as frequently reported on the Ridgewood blog , auto theft is on the rise in the state of New Jersey. In 2021 there were 26 cars stolen in the Village of Ridgewood. Every car stolen was unlocked with the keys left in it. It’s important to always lock your car whenever it is left unattended. Studies have shown that the vast majority of vehicles that are burglarized or stolen have been left unlocked. Don’t be the next victim. Here are several simple steps that everyone should follow.

Lieutenant Todd Harris Retires From the Ridgewood Police Department

Ridgewood NJ, December 31st 2021 was the last day of work for Lieutenant Todd Harris. Todd Joined the Ridgewood Volunteer Ambulance crop in 1982 and was hired by the Ridgewood Police Department in 1987 continually serving the Village of Ridgewood for 39 years. Todd was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2004 and Lieutenant in 2009. The Ridgewood Police congratulate Todd on his retirement and thank him for his many years of dedicated service to the Village of Ridgewood.

U.S. Military Academy Marathon Team Ran Stopped at the Glen Rock 9/11 Memorial on the Way to Last Saturdays Army /Navy Game

Glen Rock NJ, early Friday December 10th the West Point – The U.S. Military Academy Marathon Team ran through Glen Rock on their trek from West Point to Met-Life Stadium in advance of this Saturday’s Army/Navy game.
The cadets chose to stop at 9/11 Memorials along the route, which included the Glen Rock 9/11 Memorial at Veteran’s Park on Main Street. Thank you to the West Point Cadets for choosing to include and honor Glen Rock’s 9/11 Memorial along their route.

The Village of Ridgewood 2021 Christmas Tree Arrives

Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Police Department escorted this year’s Christmas tree from Township of Washington to East Ridgewood and Broad St where it will be decorated for the Downtown for the holidays celebration on December 3rd. Downes Tree Service got the tree in shape and in the stand . The tree stands 60 feet tall where it is now and it is a Norway spruce.

Glen Rock and Ridgewood Police Search for Car Thief Leads to Return of 2018 BMW

Glen Rock NJ, Monday October 25th at 12:02 AM , Glen Rock Police patrols responded to assist the Ridgewood Police Department in investigating a report of individuals attempting to gain entry to vehicles in their community. During the course of canvassing the area, a 2018 BMW, stolen from a Glen Rock residence the day before, was observed in the area. The vehicle was subsequently found on E. Glen Ave. in Ridgewood where it had crashed, and the occupants fled on foot.  The vehicle was impounded and processed for any latent evidence.

Heermance Place closed at East Ridgewood Avenue during RHS lunch periods effective immediately

Ridgewood NJ, effective immediately, Ridgewood Police Department Captain Forrest Lyons has ordered the closure of Heermance Place at East Ridgewood Ave. during all Ridgewood High School (RHS) lunch periods.  The Captain’s closure order is in response to several vehicle vs. pedestrian “near misses” that occurred on the street during these times.

Car Strikes the Side of a Multi-family home on Union Street Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, no injuries were reported by the adult female driver of a white colored, 4-door Hyundai Sonata sedan that crashed into the side of a multi-family home in the 100 block of Union Street, Ridgewood on Thursday morning, 10/07. Ridgewood Police and Ridgewood Fire Department responded to the incident. A flatbed tow truck assisted in removing the vehicle from its impaled position. Despite crash related damage, the vehicle was able to be driven away on its own power. Damage to the home appeared to have been cosmetic in nature only.

Hackensack Security Guard Charged with Possession of Child Pornography

Hackensack NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of EMERY A. TAYLOR (DOB: 9/12/1987; single; security guard) of 430 Union Street, Apartment 3B, Hackensack, New Jersey on a charge of possession of child pornography. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love.
