The Racist Views of Planned Parenthood’s Founder

In the wake of the recent and ongoing Planned Parenthood scandal regarding the harvesting and sale of baby hearts, livers, lungs, and other organs, late last week a group of black pastors requested that a bust of Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, be removed from a temporary Smithsonian exhibit named, ironically, “Struggle for Justice.”

The pastors are deeply offended at Sanger’s inclusion in the program because of her direct ties to eugenics and overall disdain for African-Americans.

Until now, many Americans have trustingly assumed that Planned Parenthood is a benevolent health care provider, but after watching the horrific videos, complete with senior employees’ casual disrespect for human life and dignity, the public is beginning to ask more probing questions about Planned Parenthood’s founding, mission, and ongoing work.

In doing so, they will likely learn very disturbing information about Sanger’s view of black Americans and how that influenced the founding of Planned Parenthood of America, the nation’s largest abortion provider.

In 1921, Margaret Sanger founded the American Birth Control League, which in 1942 underwent a name change to become Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Many of the group’s founding directors were actively involved in the “eugenics” movement, which held that certain classes or colors of people were “lesser” and “unfit” for humanity and shockingly should be eliminated. Included in these targeted “unfit” groups were black Americans (another group included was people with disabilities).

In addition to eugenics involvement, one founding director, Dr. Lothrup Stoddard, wrote a book, “Rising Tide of Color against White Supremacy.”

Perhaps the hardest fact to take in is that under Margaret Sanger’s leadership, the organization created a program called the “Negro Project,” which involved strategically seeking to decrease the black population by convincing black community leaders to introduce birth control to their networks.

About the project, Margaret Sanger was once quoted as saying, “We do not want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten that idea out if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.”

She also spoke at Ku Klux Klan meetings.

Fast-forwarding to 2015, sadly, today, black Americans are aborted at a highly disproportionate rate.

Making up only 13 percent of the population, this group makes up a staggering 36 percent of the nation’s abortions.

In certain areas such as New York City, a black baby is more likely to be aborted than carried to term.

In the words of the pastors:

Perhaps the gallery is unaware that Ms. Sanger supported black eugenics, a racist attitude toward black and other minority babies; an elitist attitude toward those she regarded as ‘the feeble minded;’ speaking at rallies of Ku Klux Klan women….Also the notorious ‘Negro Project’ which sought to limit, if not eliminate, black births, was her brainchild. Despite these well documented facts of history, her bust sits proudly in your gallery as a hero of justice.

As the undercover videos continue to be made public one after the other, it is likely that Americans will continue to discover many unseemly truths about Planned Parenthood’s origins

Belief in God really does make you feel better, study suggests

Cancer patients who report more religiousness or spirituality may also experience fewer physical symptoms of cancer and treatment and more social connection, several new papers suggest.

The new analyses reviewed previous studies of spirituality involving more than 44,000 cancer patients altogether. The studies varied in many ways, but religion and spirituality were associated with better health regardless of specific religion or set of spiritual beliefs.

Some previous research has found this connection while others have not, said Heather Jim of the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, who led one of the new studies.

“Patients should not be pressured into adopting religious or spiritual beliefs,” Jim said. “Although our data suggest that patients with greater religion/spirituality tend to have better perceived physical health, these are aggregate-level data.”

“Patients who are not religious or spiritual can also experience good health outcomes,” she said.

These studies relied on patients to report on their health, so they did not address objective cancer outcomes, she told Reuters Health by email.

In the season’s final showcase, a quartet of Graydon swimmers doubled down on gold medal performances.

The foursome of Sarah Afromsky, Jackie Grayson, Emerson Klein and Jordan Afromsky claimed two relay titles in the 13/14-year-old division to lead the Ridgewood squad at last week’s New Jersey Pool Managers Association (NJPMA) county championships, held at various locations from Aug. 3-8.

In total, 10 Graydon swimmers competed in 20 different events at the meet.

The students at Taekwondo All In started their summer in style by claiming seven gold, six silver and 13 bronze medals at the 2015 National Taekwondo Championship in Austin, Texas, in early July.

Every Ridgewood student that reached the championships took home at least one medal.

Here’s a day-by-day breakdown of the team’s progress at the event:

JULY 5: The successful run began in the cadet division (ages 12-14) competitions in breaking, poomsae (form) and sparring.

David Ahn earned third place, and Colin Fitzgerald claimed fifth in the breaking division, while Jongyun An tied for first place but was beaten in a tiebreaker and took home the silver medal.

In poomsae, Ahn led the team by earning a gold medal, while An captured a silver for his performance. Fitzgerald and Abhishek Narang earned bronze medals in poomsae.

Midland Park NJ, An electrical fire that originated in a commercial laundry dryer forced the temporary evacuation of the Ethos Spa at 85 Godwin Avenue, Midland Park on Thursday morning, 08/13. Midland Park FD responded and determined that the fire had not extended beyond the laundry room area. No injuries were reported and following ventilation of all smoke from the area, the premises were able to be reoccupied. Midland Park PD also responded.

Fake customer service rep trolls complainers of Target’s new gender neutral policy

Target started an effort to become more gender inclusive, doing so by getting rid of gender-based signs in its store’s toy sections. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy about it.

As with every progressive brand change, people have been flooding Target’s social media pages with serious and sarcastic complaints about its new policy, which was announced on Aug. 7.

In response, a Facebook troll called Ask ForHelp has been responding to these unhappy customers with hilariously snarky comments, pretending to represent Target customer service. Naturally, the account doesn’t take being made fun of with a grain of salt.

Another exciting summer at the Kasschau Shell

To the Editor:

Thursday, Aug. 6 was the final performance of the Kasschau Memorial Shell Concert Series. It was an exciting performance of gospel music by Mack Brandon and the Connection. The audience joined in on a number of songs and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

I must thank the generous sponsors who support this exceptional summer series. Our performers have appeared at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the New Jersey PAC. They are artists who have performed on Broadway and played in pit orchestras of Broadway shows. We have listened to the beautiful voices of Mark and Christie McVey, Greg Caldarone and Andy Cooney and danced to rock music and the big band sound. We have sung along with Bobby Byrne and marveled at the virtuosity of Bucky Pizzarelli. Their level of professional experience is incredible and all one had to do was bring a chair or blanket and head to the shell. I encourage all to look for our flyers next year and join the fun.

Thanks go to the wonderful and helpful people at the Parks and Recreation Department. Nancy, Marge, Tim and Mary helped make everything work smoothly. Jared Montgomery is an exceptional soundman, and he and Jack Stofka, his assistant, did an outstanding job. Paramus NJ, Paramus Police Department units on the scene of a motor vehicle collision in which a fire hydrant was struck on Route 17 southbound in Paramus, just south of Ridgewood Avenue, on Friday, 08/14.

The force of the collision’s impact sheared off the hydrant at its base causing a water leak that closed the right shoulder and right & center travel lanes of the highway for approximately two (2) hours beginning at 3:45 PM. Southbound traffic on Route 17 was backed up for miles as a result, and there was heavy rubbernecking northbound. The center travel lane of the highway was opened shortly after 5:30 PM.
No information about the number vehicles involved in the collision, nor the nature of any injuries, was available from police on the scene. A worker from United Water was observed at the scene attending to the leak.

Readers says Mayor Aronsohn will pay at the Next Election

The terrible three campaigned heavily for Mr. (RBSA) Albano and he was defeated heavily, squished under the shoes of the sane voters of Ridgewood. Councilwoman Hauck was seen and heard in the hallway outside the Annie Zusy room talking into her cell phone while the vote counts were being revealed, and she was referring to the Ridgewood voters as idiots. They wanted Albano something fierce. Remember, we all just get one vote, so you are wrong, they will not get reelected. No way.

And it isn’t over yet. in the council’s attempt to put the kabash on the Friends of Sciedler’s resolution ,they voted in a resolution that allows for interested parties to come forth with a use for the house and funding options. They accomplished that. While people are disillusioned, the wheels are still turning. Perhaps an ordinance, ” Preserve the Status Quo” which would prevent any destruction of the house and trees before a formalized plan for the property is adopted could be passed or at least argued for. We may have a new council in May which is better in tune with the people. Regarding our former mayor, we would be lucky go have him back and/or Bernie. I can only hope.

Local’ residents deserve a say on Schedler property

To the Editor:

“Go West, young man,” a phrase made famous by Horace Greeley, could have certainly been directed at families moving to the Village of Ridgewood. This young man decided to go east in this beautiful community and raise a family. He has stayed for over 30 years, and now after all this time is wondering whether west would have been the smarter and wiser choice for his family’s future.

My wife, Michele, and I have spent most of our adult lives bringing up two children, supporting the excellent school system, participating in community events, and the excellent sports programs. Living on the east side of Ridgewood came with some issues that we have accepted and lived with over these 30-plus years: No local grammar school for our children to attend, no local park for our children to play in, and being treated at times by this town as the forgotten community but always being told by the Village Council that this was not true but a figment of our imagination.

Finally, we are given the chance to have something that could prove very positive for this east side community, the purchase of the Schedler property. My wife and I were very active early in getting the local community and Village of Ridgewood interested in securing this property. We expected and were led to believe by the Village Council that we, the local residents, would have a major and important say on how this property was developed, similar to the way the Habernickel property on the west side was developed.

Now, we were told at the Aug. 5 meeting of the Mayor and Council that they are submitting a recommendation to approve the Open Space Committee October 2012 recommendations, which includes the most controversial issue, a 90-foot baseball field on the Schedler site. The same 90-foot baseball field other Ridgewood communities did not want. It was considered for Pleasant Park but that idea appears to have been killed, and it was not built on the larger, 10-acre Habernickel property on the west side of Ridgewood because the local community preferred a smaller Little League field.

Because of this lack of concern by members of the Village Council toward the east side, this is where they have decided to definitely build this 90-foot field. It appears the plan all along was to destroy the historic Schedler house to make room for this field.

This comes, even after our east side community secured $45,000 (50 percent) of the funds necessary to save this historic house. We have always been willing to compromise except for the issue of destroying the Schedler house and building a 90-foot field. Everything else was on the table, and we were led to believe by the current administration that our proposals were being seriously considered and open to further debate and discussion.

We were misled and will soon know if the east side Ridgewood community will again be treated as second class citizens and not heard from again.

Mayor Aronsohn thwarts citizens group

At the Aug. 5 Ridgewood Council meeting, the mayor took it upon himself to request a resolution to adopt the old Open Space Committee’s recommendation in 2010 to place a Major League Baseball standard diamond on the Schedler property. That would result in the demolition of the historic Zabriski House and the removal of 4 acres of trees, which buffer a residential neighborhood backing onto Route 17.

The mayor disregarded the 2012 amended version that gave interested parties six to 12 months to find a suitable use for the house. The group, Friends of Schedler, met its deadline as the Bergen County Historical Society expressed a desire to lease the house for a library. The Schedler group also was able to secure a $45,000 donation along with matching grants to cover the costs of stabilizing the house.

They sought a resolution that would allow them to gain a certificate of eligibility from the county and to establish a non-profit organization. The town only would have to provide the $45,000 grant to finish the work.

But rather than vote on this resolution, the mayor threw every obstacle he could think of at the presenter to prevent a vote from occurring. His own proposal for a second resolution was based on an outdated recommendation. We did not expect our mayor to throw the efforts of the people who acted in good faith under the bus. His last-minute resolution should be pulled.

Report: Top secret Clinton emails covered drones

The two “top secret” emails under review from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s private server include discussion of an article about a U.S. drone operation, the Associated Press reported Friday.

While the U.S. drone program has been widely reported on, the article references classified information and a Clinton adviser follows up “in a way that could possibly be inferred as confirmation,” the AP said, citing intelligence officials.

Officials offered the AP different accounts of the second email, saying it could improperly acknowledge classified information or merely show that different individuals separately got the same information.

Clinton, now a Democratic presidential candidate, earlier this week said her aides were handing over her private email server and a backup thumb drive to the Justice Department.

That news came hours after Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) sent a memo to a handful of lawmakers confirming that the Office of the Inspector General of the Intelligence Community found four “highly classified” emails out of a batch of 40.

High cost of Dodd-Frank is harming US banks and citizens

On the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, and a panel of regulatory experts gathered at an American Enterprise Institute meeting to discuss the impact of the legislation on America’s economic system.

Hensarling has been successful in finding bi-partisan support in modifying some financial regulations, particularly where federal courts have contended that regulators have failed to prove the benefits of the suggested remedies. But in his recent speech at the Institute, he made it clear that his ultimate goal is the repeal of the Dodd-Frank Act.

Fines and legal fees paid by financial institutions have risen dramatically in the past five years. Violations of regulations covering money laundering and sanctions have been extremely costly to banks, with penalties negatively impacting balance sheets and shareholders’ equity.
