Ridgewood NJ, construction begins at 257 East Ridgewood Avenue. The property is owned by 257 RIDGEWOOD AVENUE LLC .  The property will be known as the Enclave . In 2014 The developers of Enclave, a proposed 52-unit luxury apartment building on Maple Avenue between East Ridgewood and Franklin.  At the time it was one of  the four properties that applied for consideration as luxury apartment locations, two are on the sites of former car dealerships; one is the site of the former DMV inspection location; and the final is the Enclave.

Mask Up At Starbucks

Ridgewood NJ, The United States’ most ubiquitous coffee chain, Starbucks, is now requiring customers to wear masks at all of its US locations, starting July 15. Mask use mandates in the US continue to vary by state; however, the new Starbucks policy will be applied consistently, regardless of the state’s policy. Customers who do not wish to wear masks may be able to purchase coffee and other products via drive-through windows, curbside pickup, or delivery. Several other national business chains have implemented similar mask mandates at all locations, including Costco, and other national chains have called on governors to mandate mask use statewide, following high-profile conflicts and incidents at stores across the country.

Heading to the Ridgewood Central Business District Don’t Forget to Feed the Meter

Ridgewood NJ, Parking kiosks/meters are in use now.  As a reminder, the rates are $1/hour in the lots and $1.25/hour on the street. Kiosks take credit cards or coins. Parking kiosks have replaced most of the meters, but there are still 15 minute meters at the beginning of each side street, off of East Ridgewood Avenue.  Parkmobile may also be used at parking spaces, by downloading the app.

“I witnessed the RPD arrest of the young woman. They had already gently warned the kids against breaking any laws, such as obstructing a highway. The arrestee was using a megaphone to berate the PD and any law abiding citizen who would dare to come anywhere in the protester’s path.

“No resident uses all of the features of this town. Some residents don’t even use the school system. Some use the parks, some don’t. Some play tennis, some don’t. Some use the communal garden, some don’t. Some go to concerts at the band shell, some don’t. For those who enjoy using Graydon, it’s a wonderful thing that the VC went ahead and opened it up this year. It’s kind of shocking to me that there was even a dispute about it. Nancy Bigos and Heather Mayländer pushed back so hard against this that it was shocking. Spoke to me of complete abject laziness on their part.”

“This movement needs to be actively discussed at the village hall and with BOE, officially. We can’t pretend that the woke religion isn’t a serious issue. It is very serious, ask residents in burned down, boarded up neighborhoods across the country.

While I respect individual parents’ decision to raise their kids in their own way, the village must vocally and unequivocally reflect values that vast majority of residents espouse. And I have no doubt that includes respect for the flag, freedom of speech and critical thinking.

All it takes for evil to prevail is for good people to do nothing.”

“I’ve read the article twice now and don’t detect any racism. Thoughtful and provocative, yes, which seems to be the problem for “progressives” and those who think they are, like some commentators here.

It’s great that young people are out protesting and showing solidarity with another group of people but I wonder how well informed they truly are and whether they and their parents (and some commentators here) are able to separate the basic, laudable idea that Black Lives Matter and the BLM organization/leadership, which has a distinctly socialist/radical streak which is much less acceptable to informed, mature adults. I suspect not.

“I’ve seen comments on this board justifying recent BLM protests by Ridgewood’s younger people. The argument goes something like this: let them protest, at least they are standing up for something.

That would be an ok argument if the movement they are claiming to be a part of didn’t result in country-wide mayhem, burning of the flag, deaths of many innocents and billions in property damage.

But since these unfortunate things have happened, I don’t see how it’s ok to come out in Ridgewood and stand up “for something.” Something ain’t good enough. BLM ringleaders know what the purpose is. Ridgewood kids do not. Until they get educated about what’s actually going on, they should study math and English instead of protesting.”

“I recommend that parents of these protesters google CNN payout to Nick Sandman. It’s a big figure. It doesn’t take much imagination to picture a law abiding resident who gets into an argument with the kids… some of them act aggressive… a nuz outlet or Twitter outs the resident publicly… the Leftist mob smear the resident… the resident files a juicy lawsuits against the nuz outlet… and against the Ridgewood kids who were smearing him…
This is all fun and games, and material for college applications… until the slow wheels of justice finally club your kid with a 6 or 7-figure decision. Ridgewood NJ,  a reader asked , “Do you think that the Village had intelligence that there would be a protest like this and that’s why they cancelled the CBD restaurant mall  ?” It does appear to be the case and the Village can be commended for taking action to ensure the safety of residents ,businesses and protesters ,but it does raise some issues as to why the Central Business District continues to get the shaft from the Village. Will Ridgewood CBD continue its comeback attempt to once again be a viable post pandemic downtown  or will shoppers and dinners flee and not return do to protests and unrest ?

Ridgewood “Black Lives Matter” Protesters Demand a more “Woke” Classroom

Ridgewood NJ, the “Black Lives Matter” protesters  made the following demands to create a more “woke” classroom in Ridgewood . The demands clearly put ideology over learning and  attempt to drag Ridgewood’s $115 million dollar school budget into the “cultural revolution” ie even more Marxism.  We are left to wonder how long Ridgewood residents  will continue to pay exorbitant property taxes and what impact this will have on the quality of education.

“Among the demands are four specific ones, related to education in Ridgewood. One, that the village’s “Eurocentric” curriculum be dismantled. Two, that there be “mandatory anti-racist training’s for students and teachers.” Three, that there be “more Black teachers, staff and leadership.” And four, that there be a “Ridgewood Public Schools Resource office” to support students of color.
