Well I went to Raymonds for lunch yesterday and had a choice of four, yes four parking spaces within direct line of sight of the restaurant. The restaurant was packed, people waiting for seats. Now I know all you garage supporters will say that this was mid August so of course there was plenty of parking. But town was jumping, people were in Van Neste, Raymonds was crazy busy, and yet there was tons of parking. Like 8:11 said, some kids will do anything to get their parents to buy them a car, including write letters about how there has been a parking problem for 20 years and the author is only 18. So ridiculous.
On Friday, August 1, The Ridgewood News published a letter to the editor entitled: “New driver frustrated by lack of village parking.”
Not surprisingly, the author of the aforementioned letter, Mr. James F. Schimmel, failed to mention that his family owns the commercial building located at 20-26 East Ridgewood Avenue, which is less than 150 feet away from the proposed Hudson Street parking garage.
Certainly, the value of said property would increase if the parking garage were built and rental fees for it could be increased as well.
Yet another letter writer who chose to omit key information from a letter to the editor about the proposed parking garage. When will it end?

Note: The Ridgewood News opted not to publish a response from me, almost identical to the above letter, regarding Mr. Schimmel’s letter.
Ridgewood sale days under attack by aggressive parking police .witnessed this last Friday at 12 15 aside the book store cottage place.
Merchants should look into this interms of a ticket amnesty for mid day to 6 pm for special Ridgewood sale days .try to get over ourselves RIDGEWOOD good will be remembered forever…parking tickets on sale days guarantee no repeat visit by that out of Towner…why would they come back..give them a thank you for coming flyer waiver reminder if the Meters can’t be waived.
Too much regulation steals our freedoms in Ridgewood.
The cost of maintaining this over regulation is boundless.example
Overnight parking limitations call in requirement is another freedom taken away
from homeowners of small houses.Kids have cars now to get to colleges and jobs.a simple VOR car rear window sticker would solve the concerns of police on identifying any loiterers or stalkers late at nights.
Meantime the large houses on the heights have endless driveways.

THE RIDGEWOOD NEWS
RIDGEWOOD – Ridgewood’s new governing body laid the groundwork for pressing issues in their first meeting on Wednesday. Parking, budget approvals and Ridgewood Water were top items.
Parking
The council openly brainstormed different ideas to fix parking in the central business district. Deputy Mayor Michael Sedon, who kicked off the conversation, said the village should explore creating more one-way streets, which will increase on-street parking spots.
Ridgewood NJ, Just a quick take on last night first council meeting with the new council , if tonight is any indication of things to come, so much is going to be accomplished. Ordinance 3066 is to be repealed. There was real talk about Ridgewood Water, even addressing the law suit.
The parking issues were addressed with real common sense and many new ideas as well as recognition of the immediacy of getting things done quickly. Roberta didn’t run the meeting and actually did what she is supposed to do, inform the council!
Rurik Halaby could not help himself. He had to praise the past council and once again went on and on about how there has never been anyone like Roberta. He gave Susan a mild lecture and talked about his belief that Valley is a done deal and to fight this would be the equivalent of endangering lives( lifes?)He cautioned Susan not to base her decisions on a few disgruntled neighbors and move Ridgewood forward into the future embracing change and growth. I might have made this sound better than it actually did! But she was very polite as usual.
Hopefully we go forward with a suit against Valley. maybe it would tie things up long enough for them to start developing all the other properties they have purchased and their argument that their expansion is for the greater good will not have as much impact in a court of law as it seems to have done with the current judge.
Ridgewood NJ, lets face it ,its convenient, there is plenty of parking , no jelly fish or sharks and when mother nature turns up the heat Ridgewood residents continue to flock to Graydon pool to cool down.

The “toxic” situation has not arrived. You are imagining a Walking Dead future. Relax.
People will shop if there are products that they want, at a good price.
Restaurants do fine. They all wish that they could sell alcohol and make big bucks on the bar. The restaurants, like Valley, are regional businesses. People come to Ridgewood to dine out, many love the fact that we have so many byob establishments. This is the crux of the “parking problem”. People from all over Bergen county come to Ridgewood. The busineses would like more but feel that they are hampered by lack of parking.
They need to come up with a solution that does not rely on me for funding.
Many well-thought reasons for voting NO to the garage have already been posted. But here are my central questions? Why on God’s green earth are we considering building a $11,500,000 garage in a remote corner of the the central business district BEFORE we look to simpler solutions such as angled parking stalls, the often under utilized Cottage Place lot, and the potential of the more central N. Walnut Street lot?
Why the hyper focus on Hudson Street? (I think we all know why). I’m not saying that a parking garage should never be built. But the $11.5 MILLION “fix”, especially at that remote location, should not be the FIRST solution we consider to this 80 year old problem. Let’s take more prudent, incremental steps toward freeing up parking throughout the CBD, and then reassess. Tomorrow, please VOTE NO!
Ridgewood NJ, Before you vote today, please take a moment to watch this video of Councilmen elect Ramon Hache. It will give you a clearer idea of what the New Village Council plans to do regarding a comprehensive parking solution. Ramon discuses parking, signage , and much much more.
This is a reminder that tomorrow is a Ridgewood-only election to vote yes or no on a binding referendum for the financing of a parking deck at Hudson Street.
The referendum question on the ballot tomorrow is:
Shall ordinance No. 3521 submitted by referendum petition providing for the Council of the Village of Ridgewood to issue $11,5000,000 bonds or notes to finance the cost of constructing the Hudson Street parking deck, be adopted? Yes or No
Please note that polls are open from 6 A.M. to 8 P.M.
You may also refer to the Village website at www.ridgewoodnj.net for more information.
Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood train station was buzzing with activity this morning as Council Person Mike Sedon payed a visit to encouraging people to vote in tomorrows special election . The June 21 referendum is asking residents if they want to repeal an ordinance to bond $11.5 million to construct the Hudson Street parking deck.
The Village Council approved the resolution certifying a petition put forth by a committee of five dedicated residents. The petition calls for a repeal of an ordinance the council approved in March bonding $11.5 million for the project.
A “NO” vote is by no means and end to the parking garage but it does give the incoming council , that won election in a historic landslide more input in to the process.
Ridgewood Nj, In this VoR clip from April 6, 2016, at the 1:14:00 mark, you see the village manager admit we have a parking surplus, not crisis: https://www.tubechop.com/watch/8113003 .
THIS TUESDAY – June 21st – Special Election In Ridgewood. Please Vote NO.
Don’t be fooled by the flyer/mailer from Progress Ridgewood which claims that the new council elect wants you to vote yes. That’s simply not true.
