Ridgewood Emergency Services well Prepared for Tropical Storm Isaias

Ridgewood NJ, Tropical Storm Isaias was no challenge to the Volunteers of Ridgewood Emergency Services. With all Emergency Services trucks well prepared, ready and staffed with volunteers, the Ridgewood
Emergency Services units responded to over 100 requests for service during the fast-moving storm.  In advance of the Isaias, the volunteers had to well prepared at their own homes prior to heading to
headquarters for storm duty. While at headquarters they made sure that all equipment was ready to mitigate the hazards that comes with a tropical storm.

The Emergency Medical Services Division responds to your call for medical assistance while the Special Operations Division responds to a myriad number of requests for assistance. 

RES secures the scene for the safety of other responders and the public with emergency lighting, signs, and road detours and closures as well as participating at Village events.

Downed Tree Takes Causes Power and Communication Service Outages in Old Country Club Neighborhood of Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, A downed tree resulted in damage to at least two (2) utility poles and caused electric and communications services outages to many single family homes located in the Old Country Club neighborhood of Ridgewood on Friday evening, 05/15. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, and Ridgewood Emergency Services responded to block streets and monitor fallen live electric wires until PSE&G crews were able cut power and restore primary & secondary electric service. Property damage was minimal, with the most serious being a tree limb that damaged a fence before landing in an in-ground swimming pool. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Ridgewood Fire Inspector Uncovers an Unstable Brick Facade on Broad Street

Ridgewood NJ, a Ridgewood Fire Department Fire Inspector performing a routine inspection on Thursday afternoon, 05/14, observed an unstable brick facade on the front of mixed use building located at 18 South Broad Street, Ridgewood. A Ridgewood Police uniformed patrol officer and personnel from Ridgewood Emergency Services assisted Ridgewood firefighters in getting vehicles moved from the street, and cordoning off the sidewalk & parking spaces in front of the damaged building. Front doors to apartments above and the restaurant below were marked with caution tape and signs as being “unsafe.” A construction crew was scheduled to perform demolition and repair work on Friday, 05/15. The building was deemed safe for occupancy by a sub code official from the Village’s Building Department.

Ridgewood Emergency Services Lends Assistance at Route 208 Sink Hole

Glen Rock NJ,  according to the Glen Rock Police on Tuesday evening around 7pm a large and deep sink hole developed on route 2008 south bound closing all but on e lane .Ridgewood Emergency Services Volunteers were out on Route 208 this evening assisting Fair Lawn Police and Glen Rock Police with traffic management. Emergency Services members are trained in the use of signing, cones along with the use of a high visibility display board mounted on the trucks to alert drivers. High visibility white lights provide safe working conditions for those on the scene. Emergency Services can be on the scene within minutes of being requested. This rapid response promotes safety on the roadway for all.

UPDATE : Four Alarm Fire in Ridgewood’s Central Business District

Ridgewood NJ, A multiple alarm fire destroyed a 3-story mixed use (commercial/residential) structure located at Bagelicious 19-23 North Broad Street, Ridgewood on Sunday night, 04/05. Numerous fire departments from Bergen and Passaic Counties assisted Ridgewood Fire Department in extinguishing the conflagration. At least one (1) residential occupant of the building was rescued by firefighters and transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood EMS, Ridgewood Emergency Services, and Ridgewood OEM were all represented by personnel at the scene.

Car Takes Out Utility Pole on West Ridgewood Avenue

Ridgewood NJ, The adult female driver of a BMW sedan sustained non life threatening injuries during a Friday morning, 04/03, crash in which a utility pole was severed near 60 West Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood. The victim was transported by a Ridgewood EMS ambulance to The Valley Hospital. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, and Ridgewood Emergency Services also responded to the incident. The crash forced the closure of a portion of West Ridgewood Avenue for several hours while utility crews worked to restore services.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Emergency Services has been on the front lines of the Covid-19 pandemic. Volunteers work every day to save lives while risking their own to do so. Not knowing what their day will be like, especially during this pandemic, our EMT’S serve the Village for long hours to keep everyone safe and healthy. “These volunteers are sacrificing and taking risks every day, now more than ever,” said Public Information Officer Bob Krane.

Ridgewood NJ, When not at Ridgewood Emergency Services as its Public Information Officer, Bob Krane  is a State Staging Officer and Logistics Support member of the NJ EMS Task Force and a member of the Bergen County EMS Special Operations Group. Bob has been  volunteering at the Bergen County Corvid19 Testing site in Paramus. It’s “all hands on deck” said Krane.
Members of the NJ EMS Task Force Thursday continued to support local, state and national partners at mobile COVID-19 testing sites at Bergen Community College and the PNC Bank Arts Center.

Ridgewood Restaurant Owner helping the EMS Volunteers on the front lines……

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood restaurant owner Lisa Mayisouglu of Lisa’s Mediterranean Cuisine wanted to help those volunteers on the front line, who are responding to the emergency medical calls during the COVID-19 Coronavirus. Thinking of how she could help, Lisa reached out to Ridgewood Emergency Services Volunteers and offered to prepare dinner for the volunteer EMS crews. “I have the food; our restaurant can only provide take out service now. So I decided to give back and provide a healthy meal for the Volunteers who are away from their families and risking exposure to the virus despite all the precautions that they take”. 

Lisa, who has owned her restaurant for 15 years in the Village is taking her efforts even further by organizing other restaurants in the Village to follow suit. Ridgewood Emergency Services Public Information Officer Bob Krane stated “that the Volunteers really appreciate Lisa’s concern and thoughtfulness. A big thank you to Lisa. These are difficult times for all. Just as Lisa is supporting the Volunteers, all residents need to support the local restaurants by ordering take out service.”
