Kasschau Memorial Shell Says Thank You to Sponsors

Dear Kasschau Shell Concert friends!
What a summer this has been! The Summer of Jo was one for the record books!
The Kasschau Memorial Shell Committee in Ridgewood was thrilled to be able to offer our Summer Concert Series despite the challenges brought to our community by Covid-19. Many acts returned to our beautiful outdoor stage and many were new additions to our lineup! All were thrilled to be on stage performing, and the “physically distant” audiences appreciated the varied styles of music and enthusiasm of the bands.
Our season began with a special dedication to our former chair Jo Delaney who passed away in January. Mayor Susan Knudsen issued a Proclamation by the Village Council in gratitude to Jo and her family for her many years of volunteerism in Ridgewood, and declared this to be the “Summer of Jo” at her beloved Kasschau Shell.
The Committee proudly awarded the Kasschau Memorial Shell Scholarship to Ms. Stefanie Hass, Ridgewood High School Class of 2020. Stefanie will be pursuing instrumental music education at the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University.

Ridgewood High School Alumni Association to postpone Homecoming until the fall of 2021

rhs 2020

Dear RHS Community,

You may be aware that last year the Ridgewood High School Alumni Association hosted its inaugural Homecoming/Reunion Weekend.  We endeavored to centralize Reunions to allow for more camaraderie between celebratory classes and offered an opportunity to visit your Alma Mater hosted by current ambassadors on a coordinated weekend.  We were excited to make our second annual Homecoming weekend that much more special this October when the classes ending in five and zero celebrated their respective reunions.  Unfortunately, the Ridgewood High School Alumni Association has made the difficult decision to postpone Homecoming until the fall of 2021.

Reader calls it,”collective greed and union fueled expectations of more more more”

RHS_Sign_theridgewoodblog

“Such excellent commentary from fair minded people calling out Fishbien and the REA for what they truly are… have never been”doing it for the children” as they tell you every other second but just concerned for their over the top pay and how to continue getting paid for half an effort..the teacher as hero myth had truly been debunked forever now…”Sorry Billy, Mrs Jones doesn’t really care if she ever sees you again” the children will quickly learn this and remember for their lives..no memories of nice empathetic classroom leaders just a money grabbing union worker…disgraceful.
How NOT ONE teacher feels it in their soul that this set up is unfair to the parents and taxpayers of Ridgewood belies their collective greed and union fueled expectations of more more more…NOT ONE voice calling for some sort of give back to the generous community during these highly stressful family conditions is unconscionable and sad.”

Reader claims, “Ridgewood’s young people are far from being “spoiled brats”

“Many of these young people take this issue very seriously and are willing “to get up early” to support it. I’m sure they will be telling tales about it when they get older. As long as they do it in a proper manner and respecting all appropriate laws, let them be. However, the fact that the Officers felt the need to show up is proof that too many are “fake protesters, just trying to see how much attention they can get by being rowdy and, in some cases, actually dangerous.”

Everyone keeps telling them to “get jobs”. the question during this pandemic is “Where?” Adults can’t find jobs and all the summer jobs for teens, and regular jobs for older youth, are gone. Our recent college graduate has been searching since March. Fortunately, her older brother and sister have been able to keep the ones they’ve had since they have graduated. Offer these protestors a job and see how many will jump to take it–they’re not all “spoiled Ridgewood brats” and the majority of Ridgewood’s young people are far from being “spoiled brats”. Look at all the volunteer work they do and all the help they’ve provided to the Seniors Citizens in Ridgewood esp. during this pandemic. Remember, all you grouches were teens once. Were you always angelic?”

Reader says , “The current lack of schooling is killing off the children’s futures”

Back to school 02

“I’m torn about these statistics. On the one hand, kids are bound to associate closely, and so have high risk of infection.
On the other hand, not sending them to school for what will be seven months in September, is clearly harmful to their development.”

CDC : Back to School?

ridgewood crossing guards

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, Many parents, caregivers, and guardians face new and difficult choices about how their child will return to school in the fall, such as deciding between in-person and virtual learning.

According to the CDC, schools play an important role in students’ educational achievement, health, and wellbeing. Working with local health officials and with parents and caregivers, schools also have an important role in slowing the spread of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) while protecting students, teachers, and staff and helping ensure students have safe and healthy learning environments.
