Waldwick NJ, Just past 2 in the morning July 5th the Waldwick, NJ Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a single vehicle motor vehicle accident on Route 17 southbound near the bus stop. A Chevy pickup left the roadway and crashed through the guardrail coming to rest on its passenger side. Two occupants needed assistance in exiting the truck. Waldwick, NJ Volunteer Fire Department crews first stabilized the vehicle before assisting them out. The patients were turned over to the Waldwick Volunteer Ambulance Corps and were transported to Valley Hospital with non life threatening injuries. Fire Department units stood by till the vehicle was removed.
Paramus NJ, a flatbed tow truck driver crashed into a tree after experiencing a medical episode while driving near a former Barnes & Noble store at the intersection of Glen Avenue and Route 17 southbound in Paramus late Tuesday morning, 05/16. The victim was quickly attended to by a paramedic team from The Valley Hospital along with Paramus Police and Paramus EMS personnel. He was transported by ambulance to The Valley Hospital after on-scene evaluation and treatment. A heavy-duty tow truck removed the damaged vehicle from the scene.
Ho-Ho-Kus NJ, a Friday afternoon, 02/24, two (2) vehicle crash on Route 17 southbound in Ho-Ho-Kus sent a white colored Honda CRV careening off of the traveled lanes and onto the right shoulder where it came to rest partially up on a guardrail. The other vehicle involved, a convertible VW Beetle, sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene. The Honda was towed. No injuries were reported in the incident, which was investigated by Ho-Ho-Kus Police with the assistance of Saddle River Police and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office roving SWAT Team. Ho-Ho-Kus Fire Department also responded to the mishap.
Ramsey NJ, the Route 17 southbound ramp from Lake Street is scheduled to be closed and detoured beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, January 30 in Ramsey, Bergen County.
The closure is necessary for drainage work and is expected to be in place for approximately one month.
Paramus NJ, Paramus Police Emergency Services Unit officers were forced to break the rear driver’s side window of a GMC SUV to free its unconscious driver after the vehicle careened off of Route 17 southbound on Sunday morning, and crashed into the parking lot of a Starbucks restaurant. A medical episode may have triggered the crash. The driver was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center’s main campus by a Paramus EMS ambulance. A flatbed tow truck removed the SUV from its predicament.
Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, and Ridgewood Emergency Services officers/firefighters/personnel responded to aid the adult victim of a single vehicle, rollover motor vehicle crash with entrapment that occurred on Route 17 southbound near Paramus Road, Ridgewood on Sunday afternoon, 09/25. The victim was quickly extricated by Ridgewood firefighters and transported by ambulance to The Valley Hospital. Tow trucks righted the vehicle, a Honda SUV, and removed it from the scene. Traffic flow on Route 17 southbound near the accident site was restricted on one (1) lane while emergency responders worked. The victim’s injuries appeared to have been non-life threatening in nature.
Lodi NJ, Lodi Area Weekend Street Closing beginning September 16th. New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced that Route 17 southbound will be closed for 24 hours this weekend for a railroad crossing rehabilitation project in Lodi, Bergen County near the Hackensack University Medical Center. This is the third of three railroad crossing repair projects taking place in Lodi.
Ridgewood NJ, Thursday evening, 08/25, high speed pursuitof an alleged DUI driver that originated in Ridgewood, terminated in a crash with injuries in the parking lot of Home Goods on Route 17 southbound in neighboring Paramus. Multiple parked vehicles were reportedly damaged by the fleeing black colored BMW in downtown Ridgewood, and several moving & parked vehicles were hit in Paramus. At least two (2) individuals were injured in the Paramus crashes. The suspected DUI driver, an adult male reportedly from East Orange, was captured quickly by Paramus Police and turned over to Ridgewood Police for processing.
Rochelle Park NJ, Three (3) men were quickly apprehended in connection with a late Monday afternoon, 08/01, multi-vehicle crash on Route 17 southbound near East Passaic Street, Rochelle Park, that involved a white Mercedes SUV that was being pursued by Paramus Police units. The Mercedes had allegedly been stolen recently from Manalapan, NJ. At least two (2) tow trucks were observed removing wrecked vehicles from the clogged highway. A pursuing Paramus Police patrol vehicle was reportedly one of the vehicles damaged in the pileup. One (1) injury was linked to the incident; a Paramus EMS ambulance was dispatched to aid the adult female victim, who sustained a non-life threatening leg injury. Maywood Police and Rochelle Park Police officers aided in the capture of the suspects who had fled the crashed Mercedes.
Ho-Ho-Kus NJ, on July 11th at 11:00 PM the Ho-Ho-Kus Fire Department was dispatched to a MVC on Route 17 southbound at the Hollywood Avenue exit. Units arrived to find one vehicle into the woods on it’s side and heavily damaged with the driver trapped inside. The impact was so severe that the car’s engine and transmission were both detached and ejected away from the vehicle. Crews immediately went to work stabilizing the vehicle while an EMS team from Ho-Ho-Kus Ambulance Corps evaluated the victim. After cutting and removing the roof, one individual was extricated and packaged for transport to a local hospital. Fire Department members stood by while the vehicle was removed by a tow service and returned after approximately 90 minutes.
