Bergen County & Passaic County Approved for FEMA Major Disaster Declaration from Hurricane Ida Federal Relief

Ridgewood  NJ, both Bergen County and Passaic County were included in FEMA’s Major Disaster Declaration. The declaration will allow individuals in the approved counties to register at www.disasterassistance.gov for direct federal assistance for Ida-related recovery, which may include home repairs, temporary housing, low-cost loans, and other programs to help recover from the effects of the tropical storm.

Rutgers : Immune Response to COVID-19 May Be Proportional to Illness Severity and Duration

County Breaks Ground on Wild Duck Pond Restoration in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ,  today Bergen County broke ground on a cornerstone ecological restoration project that will return the beloved Wild Duck Pond in Ridgewood to that of its glory days, preserving it for the enjoyment of future generations. The restoration is expected to be complete next year and through the construction of stormwater treatment wetlands as well as the installation of a new pond liner, the project will restore ecological functions of the pond, enhance public use, and prevent the threat of fish kills from lack of oxygen. This is yet another project underway in our nearly 10,000 acres of Bergen County Parks System, which demonstrates both the Bergen County Board of Commissioners and administration’s continued commitment to the preservation of open space, the protection of our environment, and the enhancement of our parks.

Ridgewood NJ, a ceremony to mark the start of an ecological restoration project at the Wild Duck Pond in Saddle River County Park. The project scope includes replacing the pond liner and implementing stormwater best management practices, which will restore the pond’s wetlands and further support native wildlife. Funding for the restoration project comes from the Bergen County Open Space Trust Fund and a grant from NJ Green Acres.

Trenton NJ,  the Justice Department announced today that it has entered into a proposed consent decree to settle a voting rights lawsuit with the State of New Jersey and state officials.

The Justice Department’s lawsuit, brought under Section 7 of the National Voter Registration Act, challenges the failure of disability transportation offices in the State of New Jersey – including NJ Transit Access Link and county-based Community Transportation programs – to provide voter registration opportunities to their customers.

State Senator Holly Schepisi Calls on Murphy Administration to Open Ringwood State Park to Swimming

Ringwood NJ, Senator Holly Schepisi called on the Murphy administration to reverse its decision to cancel swimming completely at Ringwood State Park for the 2021 season due to a shortage of lifeguards.

“There are labor shortages all across New Jersey in virtually every industry,” said Schepisi (R-39). “Aside from the Murphy administration, everyone else is finding a way to adapt even if it means operating with fewer staff on a limited schedule. Why can’t that happen at Ringwood State Park? It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.”
